I spent a couple of nights here for work reasons. The couple running the place is very friendly. They prepared a lovely breakfast and they checked multiple times on me. I felt almost at home and I hope to go back. The surrounding is very quite and peaceful.

Appelscha itself isn't much to look at, but the surrounding countryside is beautiful. That's what we came for. We cooked our own meals, as the restaurants didn't appeal to us. We visited the prison museum in Veenhuizen, which was interesting.

Appelscha is situated in a beautiful, green area: the Drents-Friese Wold, from where you can follow numerous hiking and cycling routes. There are plenty of accommodation options: campsites, B&Bs, guesthouses, and hotels. There are also many restaurants and terraces. There's a very large bike shop, and just outside the town center is a shopping area.

Plenty to do for children.

Plenty to do for children. It's handy to have a bike to get around the region. There are numerous cycling routes, hiking trails, mountain bike tracks, and activities for children. A visit to Veenhuizen is also highly recommended.

The Posthoorn is easily accessible and easy to find with navigation. We received an exceptionally warm welcome, a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. The service was impeccable! Upon arrival, we were able to order food from a restaurant, which was promptly delivered, allowing us to recover from the journey in our room.

A charming village, definitely geared towards tourists.

A charming village, definitely geared towards tourists. Nature, attractions (Duinen Zathe, climbing park, open-air theater), and restaurants. Good signage, friendly people. Two supermarkets and two shops, so it's not a shopping town. There's a market every weekend.

Beautiful surroundings, lovely bike paths, and everyone is so friendly. Delicious food stalls along the way and lots of varied nature trails. Very diverse, and my husband should have brought his mountain bike, there are so many trails here, and I had to bring my riding gear because there are plenty of riding stables and horse trails.
