FAQs about hotels in Bergen

Picture-Postcard Norway

Gateway to the western fjords, Bergen is a picture-perfect postcard of Norway at its best. Colourful, wooden houses in UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bryggen contrast wonderfully with the lush greenery of the surrounding Seven Mountains.

For fantastic views of Norway’s 2nd largest city, hop on the cable car to Ulriken Mountain. Alternatively, hike or take the funicular railway up to Fløyen Mountain. With beaches sheltered from the North Sea by islands, Bergen is Norway’s busiest port and a popular starting point for fjord cruises and deep sea fishing.

The fish market in the narrow streets of the historic centre is a popular attraction, while just north is 12th-century St Mary’s Church. Around 100 years younger is Bergenhus, one of Norway’s best-preserved forts. Further north is Gamle Bergen, a reconstructed wooden village offering insight into the past.

Cobbled Strandgaten street and Lagunen Storsenter shopping centre are just some shopping options, but items aren’t cheap. As you wander around the city look for work by Dolk, Norway’s best-known street artist. Other cultural offerings are the many museums and a good music scene ranging from classic to indie.

Booking.com’s range of Bergen accommodation extends out towards Bergen Airport in Flesland, the departure point for many workers on the offshore oil and gas rigs.

It was a beautiful city but it rained all the time we were there. As the Norwegian say there are no bad weather just bad clothes, so make sure that you wear waterproof not just shower proof like I did and was completely soaked through. We visited mount Fløyen and would have done the 3 km walk back to town but it was too wet. Visited Bryggen, the German church and all the quarters around. Would love to go back in better weather and just spend more time looking around.

Beautiful city with lots to see and do, wonderful restaurants with good choice of dishes. Our fjord 4hr cruise was a great way to spend half a day on the water and the funicular rail up the mountain offered spectacular views across the city.

Bergen is the best place I have ever travelled to so far in life. The people are kind, they mind their business, but are very forthcoming when you ask for support. The city is clean, and there is a clear indication that people want their city to thrive. I didn't see lazy people or overworked ones. The weather, though cool for a Nigerian, is so soothing and calm. With the proper attire, you should be just fine. I really really love Bergen. They speak Norwegian, but most of them understand English very well and would communicate with you if the need arises. They appear introverted a lot. There are a lot of mountains for hiking, and so much to learn. There are museums, aquariums, boat cruises, beaches, and many other fun places for leisure.

Transport is fantastic, buy the Bergen card well worth the money. People are their biggest asset- very friendly and helpful. Going by the locals summer months are very busy we really enjoyed the bustle of the Christmas markets which weren’t too busy. Dr. Weissmann pub was a recommendation and it didn’t disappoint. Norway is expensive so one you get your head round that then go and enjoy.

It is very pretty.

It is very pretty. Took the train from Oslo to Bergen, approx 6&1/2 hours. Trains run to exact time. Food is fresh and lovely, we had meals at the fish market. Best salmon according to my husband. We took the funicular to Fløyen, worth doing, all of 8mins. Visited the fortress and Haakons hall.

This hotel is very well located, just a five minute walk from both the central train station and bus station. The staff were very friendly and let us rest in the lobby for a few hours at night because we arrived much earlier than expected due to transportation problems in Norway caused by the bad weather. They kept our luggage for the whole day before the check in, the check in and check out were quick and easy. The room was confortable as well equipped, including a hair dryer. The breakfast was included and there were several options.

A very comfortable hotel in a great location. The rooms are clean, modern and well equipped. Every member of staff I spoke to was helpful, smiley and very friendly. At the end of my 10-day stint travelling around Norway I’d come accustomed to starting the day with an excellent breakfast, and WOW! I was not disappointed the first morning I came down. At first you don’t know where to start. Thankfully I stayed 3-nights so I tried everything by the time I left. I’d stay here again for the breakfast alone….

Fantastic boutique hotel opposite the tourist info centre and fish market. Wonderful room with view of the mountain and everything in front, the water, boats, people and the colourful houses Bergen is famed for. The best hotel shower we’ve ever experienced, I know this sounds odd but it matters! Very comfortable bed, big TV, barely there to watch it. Breakfast was expansive, fresh and truly delicious. Staff were delightful and our whole experience was great. Absolutely loved it.
