FAQs about hotels in Bergen

Picture-Postcard Norway

Gateway to the western fjords, Bergen is a picture-perfect postcard of Norway at its best. Colourful, wooden houses in UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bryggen contrast wonderfully with the lush greenery of the surrounding Seven Mountains.

For fantastic views of Norway’s 2nd largest city, hop on the cable car to Ulriken Mountain. Alternatively, hike or take the funicular railway up to Fløyen Mountain. With beaches sheltered from the North Sea by islands, Bergen is Norway’s busiest port and a popular starting point for fjord cruises and deep sea fishing.

The fish market in the narrow streets of the historic centre is a popular attraction, while just north is 12th-century St Mary’s Church. Around 100 years younger is Bergenhus, one of Norway’s best-preserved forts. Further north is Gamle Bergen, a reconstructed wooden village offering insight into the past.

Cobbled Strandgaten street and Lagunen Storsenter shopping centre are just some shopping options, but items aren’t cheap. As you wander around the city look for work by Dolk, Norway’s best-known street artist. Other cultural offerings are the many museums and a good music scene ranging from classic to indie.

Booking.com’s range of Bergen accommodation extends out towards Bergen Airport in Flesland, the departure point for many workers on the offshore oil and gas rigs.

It is very pretty.

It is very pretty. Took the train from Oslo to Bergen, approx 6&1/2 hours. Trains run to exact time. Food is fresh and lovely, we had meals at the fish market. Best salmon according to my husband. We took the funicular to Fløyen, worth doing, all of 8mins. Visited the fortress and Haakons hall.

Bergen is a very pleasant town, with lots of things to do and see. I would highly recommend a walking tour as the history is fascinating. The ride on the finucular railway to the top of Mt. Floyen is a great experience giving you a marvellous view of the city.

Its beautiful with lots of museums, great restaurants and bars! Compact city so easily walkable although it is hilly so lots of ups and downs. The funicular is fun with many signposted walks and small lagoon at the top plus of course a couple of place to drink/eat.

We will differently go back to Bergen, such a historic place

We will differently go back to Bergen, such a historic place Surprisingly it was so clean with plenty of litter bins. So many places to eat out, our cruise trip was great to see more of Bergen. Next trip would include time to visit other towns close by. It's a romantic getaway.

It's beautiful and unique.

It's beautiful and unique. It has stunning streets and neighbourhoods, the port area is amazing. It is surrounded by hills you can easily access and enjoy. Full of restaurants very inclusive with dietary restrictions. We also enjoyed cute cafes, cool stores and peaceful parks. People everywhere were very friendly and spoke english really well, which makes it easier for visitors that don't speak norwegian. Also, the best souvenirs ever!

Bergen is absolutely beautiful.

Bergen is absolutely beautiful. It is certainly worth noting that it is the rainiest city in Europe! But we did get lucky on our trip with a lovely sunny day. We stayed in central Bergen for 5 nights (6-11 October), which was a perfect length of time for us. Our apartment was on Grønnegaten, close to the Lille Lungegårdsvannet. We explored the city with its beautiful architecture. Restaurants/cafes are fairly expensive (coming from Cambridge/London, UK), but we stayed somewhere with a kitchen so ate in in the evenings. We walked up Fløyen (1 hour to the top from our apartment, very accessible road route) and got the funicular down (75 NOK one way). We also walked up Ulriken --- Google Maps took us a bit of a weird route (from our apartment to the Skyskraperen restaurant at the top of Ulriken, the walk went via Kolstien bus stop) that felt like we were going through someone's back garden (we weren't), but it took us about 2.5 hours total to walk from our apartment to the top. A more challenging walk with lots of water and a bit of scrambling. Definitely wouldn't have wanted to do it in the rain --- we got lucky with a dry sunny day. We got the cable car down (240 NOK one way). We also got the train from Bergen to Voss (536 NOK return) and the Voss gondola up the mountain (360 NOK return). I'd recommend all of these activities! It was also great that all the tickets could be purchased online and contactless/Apple Pay was widely accepted. Everyone we interacted with also spoke amazing English and was very friendly.

Fantastic boutique hotel opposite the tourist info centre and fish market. Wonderful room with view of the mountain and everything in front, the water, boats, people and the colourful houses Bergen is famed for. The best hotel shower we’ve ever experienced, I know this sounds odd but it matters! Very comfortable bed, big TV, barely there to watch it. Breakfast was expansive, fresh and truly delicious. Staff were delightful and our whole experience was great. Absolutely loved it.

The hotel's location near Bergen Central Bus Station is incredibly convenient, especially for travelers relying on public transportation. The self-service check-in and check-out system provided a simple and hassle-free experience, saving time and effort. The availability of laundry facilities nearby is a notable advantage, particularly in Norway where laundromats can be scarce.

Such a fantastic hotel. Comfortable, stylish, staff absolutely lovely and a brilliant location. Out of the centre of Bergen but right by the sea and easy to get into town with tram or 15 min walk through a lovely park. I think you would struggle to find somewhere this reasonably priced in Norway where you can eat breakfast by the sea on a sunny day!
