We went from Bergen to Odda on Saturday and spent one night...

We went from Bergen to Odda on Saturday and spent one night at the hostel. We went for the hiking on Sunday early morning and back to Bergen at the afternoon. The small town is really cosy and beautiful.

Tyssedal and Odda are both industrial towns.

Tyssedal and Odda are both industrial towns. There are mountains, the fjord and waterfalls, but there are also large heavy industry factories - one produces titanium oxide and one is a zinc smelter. They are there because they need power and there is a ready source of power from the hydro electric station located inside the mountain at Tyssedal. The location is great if you want easy access to Trolltunga and Bondhusvatnet, but it isn't very touristy - it is more of an industrial area. The Kraftmuseum is excellent. We ended up there because it was raining in the morning - however, it was really good - a film and then a guided tour of the old hydro electric station which has been restored. It also gives a lot of information about the area, how it changed from farming to industry and why it is so industrial. So to summarise - use Tyssedal/Odda as a base but don't expect unspoilt scenery.

Beautiful place to stay, the restaurant is wonderful too, the food is delicious and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Beds are comfortable. The waiter Olaf was very attentive and polite, and added to the whole dining experience. Tyssedal is very close to the start of the Trolltunga track, and has a supermarket just 1 minute walk away. Only suggestion is to update the tv’s to allow for Netflix etc. we would definitely stay again :)

Very large unit, clean, kitchen with everything you need. The communication was easy. We had a minor problem with some things that were missing and it was resolved in a couple of minutes. You get 10% discount in a hotel restaurant (3 minute drive). Amazing mountain view.

Heritage hotel with simple decor in keeping with historical roots. Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. Generous room with comfy bed and modern bathroom. Spectacular views! Fascinating collection of traditional and folkloric/mythological art.

We stayed here for one night, on our way to Bergen. The check in was done at by a nice and helpful hoast, at the hotel nearby Tyssedal Hotel. The appartment had 2 bedrooms and was very large

Amazing view! Staff were able to answer all my questions about Trolltunga. At the time of stay the sister hotel was offering free sauna and jacuzzi visit which was awesome
