FAQs about hotels in Auckland

Thrilling City of Sails and Volcanoes

Called the "City of Sails" due to the large number of yachts anchored in Waitemata Harbor, Auckland is the largest city of both New Zealand and Polynesia. Built on the Auckland Volcanic Field featuring about 48 extinct volcanoes, this city truly is a blast!

Auckland is a real cultural mix with strong Asian, European, Maori and Polynesian influences, celebrated in frequent festivals and sports events. Some examples of these cultures can be seen at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, one of the best in New Zealand. For more, try the upmarket dining of Viaduct Harbour.

Another must-see is the tallest free-standing tower in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower. If you’re feeling up to the challenge, you can even perform the Sky Jump, a controlled base jump from 630 feet!

Climbing the volcanic cones as well as the stunning Auckland Harbour Bridge will provide unforgettable, panoramic views of the city’s skyline. For a different perspective, why not try a cruise or sea kayaking?

Getting to the city center is an easy trip from Auckland International Airport. Find modern hotels, comfortable motels and cheap hostels on Booking.com, sure to have the perfect place to stay for your trip.

Lots to do and a very good bus service also. Some very good eating venues, especially down by the Marina and Viaduct. Very multicultural and we found people friendly, once you started to chat. We came up for Cirque du Soleil and will watch out for other shows there in the future.

A busy city with peak-hour traffic in the morning and afternoon. Key spots to visit the aquaduct area has nice pubs and a seafood market where you can cook your own fish. Some interesting restaurants in around the harbour side plus make sure you visit Mount Eden great lookout spot.

It was excellent for us as we had a function to attend and needed a bed close to the friends we were meeting up with. I can’t vouch for the breakfast as we didn’t need it but I am sure our host would have supplied it if we had asked. We had a lovely room and an area nearby to relax in and an area outside if we wanted fresh air. Probably an area for adults and older children rather than young children. We had access to wi fi and a desk with TV and space for a lap top. The accommodation would be better if you had your own vehicle. We chose a bus as we had a friend taking us around and a vehicle space at the accommodation for our friend to park, and pick us up and return us. Good place for practical needs as it was clean and met our expectations of a lovely room to rest before attending our friends functions.

Short stay as we made our way down the island from Northland. Enjoyed beach walks, Visited Mission Bay. Chelsea sugar factory & Odettes eatery. Highly recommend staying at Warkworth, Orewa and Auckland inner city. Pleasant visit. Longer stay next time.

Auckland is large city and takes a while to get from one place to another, traffic is always terrible and if you get stuck in a traffic jam it can be very frustrating, always try to plan your travels out of peak traffic time's.

The Auckland zoo is a most fantastic half day trip for adults and children alike. Good snapshot of NZ bush/forest/ferns plus birds, animals and all the exotic ones too. We had a good view of the kiwis in nocturnal house. I can recommend dining at the Orbit 360 Sky if you manage to get a booking- superb views during daylight hours. Also enjoyed Hanoi cafe - Vietnamese restaurant in Britomart area.

The best thing about this hotel is the location - literally across the road from the direct airport bus which leaves from platform E at Auckland airport every 30 minutes. It's just around the corner from the Skytower and a short walk from the city centre and marinas. The room was very spacious and comfortable and the bed was probably the best I have had in a hotel. The room was spotlessly clean.

Good room with all the amenities we expected. The hotel is located very close to Auckland Domain, a big park with a very nice museum. Auckland city centre is a 30 min walk away, which for us was perfect as we like to do things on foot. Also, it was nice that the hotel is located in a quiet area, away from all the noise and chaos of the big city. We also enjoyed the breakfast buffet very much.

I admit to being a bit dubious about staying at Auckland Airport Kiwi Hotel because it was so cheap compared to other places, but I ended up being really impressed for the following reasons: Excellent value for money. Reception open 24hrs. Friendly and helpful staff. Restaurant on site. Buffet breakfast 7-9.30am. Room and bathroom clean and roomy. Easy onsite car parking.

best reasonably priced quality hotel in vicinity of Auckland airport. Room is spacious and a bit funky (in a good way). Restaurant and bar is pretty good (though drink prices are high). Always a handy option for staying the night before heading to the airport. Now charges $10 for overnight parking but when you see what is the norm for parking at hotels, this is a bargain.
