Several new improvements in Balclutha since I was there 6 years ago. An exceptional Huge new Information Center overlooking the bridge and river. With very helpful staff. A new Woolworth's supermarket as well.

Balclutha is a small rural country town, there all the facilities you need, plenty of places to eat out and shops etc. It is not a city with loads of night life. Dunedin is about an hour away It's a good base to explore the Catlins and the south of the South Island of NZ. The beach at Kaka point is only 20 minutes away there is a street food caravan serves excellent fish and chips. The drive from Balclutha to Cromwell, Queens Town, Wanaka, Milford sound and Lake Takapo are breath taking.

The new information centre and war memorial was fabulous.
The new information centre and war memorial was fabulous. The staff were ultra helpful and friendly and proved to be a real asset to the town. The views are fabulous around the town and I would recommend staying here to anyone.

Rooms well appointed and fresh and clean.
Staff friendly and helpful
Restaurant had a good range of meals for most, just didn't cater for dairy free group member.

Lovely period house, it hardly seems to have changed from when it was built. Very welcoming hosts, only continental breakfast, but plenty of it and all very tasty. We used the hot tub in the evening, it was lovely sitting out under the stars. Just a short drive to Balclutha where we had a great Indian meal at the Raj. It was fascinating to read the history of the property and Benhar. Would love to go back and stay again sometime.

Was an amazing stay. We had a room change and instead of just putting us in a similar room they took thought and care to upgrade us into anointing rooms, and explained the change.
Easy check in and out, incredibly clean, with everything one would need for there stay in Balclutha! We stayed in 5 different accommodation on our trip and the highway motel was my favourite!

We loved the view of Balclutha and the Clutha river, Jodie had supplied us with every thing that we could have wanted, the walk in shower was especially good. We had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay and really felt at home. It was really convenient to explore the southern part of the south island of NZ. Jodie was a wonderful host.

motel to centre of Balclutha. Very friendly owner placed us in back unit off the main SH1which was appreciated.
