The Food & restaurants were fantastic.
The Food & restaurants were fantastic. Te Kuiti was very central to many of the sightseeing activities like the world famous Waitomo Caves & Pio Pio, where many scenes for the 'academy award winning movie ' by Peter Jackson, "Lord of the Rings' were filmed. This is a farming commercial area close to the Waitomo Caves and cave worms tour. The town is basically two main roads with a few restaurants, stores, supermarket and other services. There is a train stop. We did not use the train for travel. It is only 15 minutes to Waitomo Caves and a good place to start exploring the cliffs along the Pacific Ocean further south.Guest review byAnthonyCanada - 10

The Waitomo Caves is a must-see, and there are other attractions close by. We grabbed lunch at the Waitomo General Store which is more than just a store.The Cafe and menu selection is amazing and very reasonably priced. The garden at the cottage was amazing to explore. Te Kuiti has a fantastic Indian Takeaway with a wide range of menu options including a traditional Chicken Tikka Marsala and a toandoor oven to make Naan. Only problem was that we arrived on a weekend and a lot of restaurants nad safes were closed and no shops open (this is normal in New Zealand country areas but not where we come from in Australia).
