I was only there for 2 nights, specifically for the NZ History Federation AGM and Conference. So it was very busy with organised activities at Te Hana Cultural Centre and bus trip around Port Albert, including the Museum across the road from motel and RSA Wellsford. All very interesting and great hospitality from everyone.

Close to all areas matakana, Warkworth, waipu and snells beach Mangawhai and only 33 min to millwater area. If you don't want to be in Auckland this is a great little motel. Has a sauna and a spa. Great having the new motorway

Dinner at a great restaurant - where the food and service was brilliant and breakfast at a cafe with excellent food and service and able to park right outside I would like to have time to look into some of their shops - we were on a business trip and had a deadline to keep to.

Wellsford is a town you have to drive through as you travel north to the Bay of Islands and beyond. It can be a bottle neck so if you are not heading there for an overnight stay, best to make certain that you do not hit it at peak travel times or season. It has everything for a quick stop. Petrol station. Many fast food outlets and amenities for travellers. If you want to take a quieter more scenic route to Auckland, then take the road to Hellensville which joins SH1 at Wellsfords Northern end. For those watching time Wellsford is approximately half way between Auckland and Whangarei.
