Our stay was exceptional. We booked the property based on its proximity to Monsanto but were very pleasantly surprised to find that there was a trail directly from the casa to a castle and fossils, just a few minutes walk away. We were greeted with fresh bread, fruits, water, wine, and cheese (and air conditioning!) which was wonderful after a long drive. Our dog was warmly greeted and a food/water bowl was provided. This property was by far the most overall luxurious rental that we’ve stayed in Portugal (after stays throughout the country over the past 6 months). I would put it in the Airbnb Luxe category. Plush towels, massive walk-in shower, high end finishes, high-end appliances (including a washing machine with complimentary quality detergent for use), plush towels, quality dinnerware and cooking supplies, spices and olive oil there were high quality (not just random things that other people likely had just left behind), a generous amount of coffee pods and tea, an assortment of games and books, and quality furniture. There was a high attention to detail throughout and the casa was spotless. Great communication, friendliness, and a desire to go above and beyond to be helpful and make us feel at home.

excellent house in Monsanto , nice balcony which can enjoy the sunset well equipped kitchen you can park the car in a square (outside the city) and walk around 8min to the house host is very responsive and give you instructions how to arrive the house Grandma and Grandpa are very nice, they made the fire for us keeping warm

The hosts were both excellent and welcoming. The house is very old but refitted, with comfy beds and hot showers. We really liked the decor and quirky layout. Breakfast being laid out for us in the morning was a nice touch! You get the feeling that the hosts really want you to enjoy your stay in Monsanto!

The house has been renovated beautifully, we loved the boulder in the bedroom - it was a highlight! The house was very comfortable with everything you could need. Penha Garcia felt like one of the Andalusian "Puebla Blancas...

Penha Garcia felt like one of the Andalusian "Puebla Blancas" which are just cross the border, and that is high praise. The roads are steep and cobbled, so cycling is problematic. But the locals were lovely and the views from the hillside across to Monsanto Castelo and to Serra da Estrella are amazing.

Small quaint village on crest of hillside, 15 minutes away...

Small quaint village on crest of hillside, 15 minutes away from Monsanto. Castelo ruins on top to hike to and we saw some trails up in the hills behind the town which were lovely, but too hot for hiking in 41 degree weather. The municipal pool fed with fresh water in a small valley is a lovely area to explore. People are friendly and helpful.

The accommodation is quite rustic; all the construction and decorative details were done by the owner himself. It's a super complete spa. I felt like I was at home with family. Thank you for all the attention you gave us. I recommend...the stay.

Everything was perfect: firm mattresses, very clean linens and kitchen. Plenty of utensils: coffee maker, toaster, hair dryer, kettle, blender... A typical terraced house, next to a bar/shop and another house. It has two floors and two bathrooms. Mountain village.

Excellent location, offering the possibility of enjoying...

Excellent location, offering the possibility of enjoying both the geo-morphological nature and the river beach (dam). However, the village has little diversity of services, with the exception of the restaurants "O Raiano" and "Javali".

Penha Garcia is peaceful and well integrated with nature.

Penha Garcia is peaceful and well integrated with nature. Ideal for relaxation and outdoor activities. Good gastronomy, although with limited local offerings. However, the good road network allows you to reach any location in the Beira Baixa region quickly.
