FAQs about hotels in Makkah

The Holy City

This holy city is located in western Saudi Arabia and is also known as Makkah. Millions of Muslims make a pilgrimage here, as the pilgrimage is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The Prophet Muhammad was born here, and it is a sacred place for Muslims and the birthplace of Islam.

Non-muslims are not permitted into Mecca and the government of Saudi Arabia issues special visas for people making the pilgrimage. Most people coming to the Mecca will enter via the Hajj Terminal at King Abdulaziz International Airport and Jeddah is the gateway to the city.

The Hajj has a fairly set itinerary including a visit to the Sacred Mosque, al-Masjid al-Haram, built around the Kaaba. Mecca contains many restaurants with varied cuisine and tea shops are available for light refreshments such as traditional tea and biscuits. There are also many juice stands for a little refreshment amid the heat. Ranging from luxury hotels to basic accommodation, Booking.com offers over 80 hotels for your time in Mecca.

This is the home of Muslims and will forever hold a special place in everyone's hearts. The place keeps changes and every time I go I am surprised with how much thought they have put into making peoples stay here convenient and peaceful, despite the very high numbers of pilgrims. You forget this place is mountainous as most places are levelled up that if it wasn't for the escalators you would think it was all on ground level!

Always check the distance from the hotel to the Masjid Haram...

Always check the distance from the hotel to the Masjid Haram through google maps. The walking distance in google maps is always accurate. Leave for prayers 45 minutes before to pray in the Haram at the exact time. If you are unsure about the hotel book for 1 day then extend if you like the hotel else check around the premises for a better hotel and a good deal. Travel only in the Green government taxis. private cars can be taken but be careful and keep your maps open when you sit so you know if they take you in right direction.

This was the only hotel with reasonable price, at walking distance from Haram. All other hotels near Haram had very very high and unrealistic prices. In Ramadan. Hotel staff was very nice and very polite, brothers from Sudan. But no English at all. Hotel was clean. But rooms are small. For young people it's easy walk. At this price, it was very nice hotel.

The hotel is near Haram, bus facilities available or taxi with minimum fare. The receptionist is very honest and polite, and the process is fast to check in. I recommend others to prefer the Ibis hotel.
