A Fairytale Place
Surrounded by green Alpine mountains, the Slovenian island of Bled is like a piece of paradise in the middle of a picturesque lake. Home to the romantic Bled Castle, this popular tourist town will amaze you with its idyllic landscape and outdoor activities.
Overlooking the Julian Alps, the iconic Assumption of Mary Pilgrimage Church was built on the ruins of a temple dedicated to the Slavic goddess of love, Zina. The island is reachable by a traditional boat called Pletna and is a dreamy place for a wedding. According to the custom, the groom has to silently carry his wife up to the steps of the charming island.
Created at the end of the Ice Age by the Bohinj glacier, the picture-perfect Bled Lake is ideal for activities like fishing, rowing and canoeing. Nature lovers should not miss Iglica Waterfall, a natural miracle on the Suha stream.

I'm a pubic transport guy, so i arrived with bus from Ljubljana – transport is good, there are buses frequently between the two towns. I went there mostly because of hiking, but there are all kinds of other sporting opportunity, especially water sports like SUP or rowing. I also spent some time with sightseeing: went to the island and also the Vintgard Gorge (do not miss it! Seriously, it's spectacular). Bled is a hidden gem in Slovenia.
Bled is a hidden gem in Slovenia. The lake and surrounding area are stunning. I would suggest exploring a little further afield especially if you are one who enjoys the outdoors, opportunities are abundant. The choices for dining are many, everything from grocery store “ready meals” to fine dining (do try the local dishes). Bled is easily walkable for all ages, also cyclists are welcome. Superbly scenically beautiful.
Superbly scenically beautiful. We loved walking around Lake Bled, exploring the island and walking up to the castle. There's a lot of walking.
There's a lot of walking. There's very little parking, so you need to be able to walk everywhere. Beautiful area! We took the pletna boat to the island. There are 99 steps to climb when you get there to see the church, shop, or see the view. Costs extra to go into church and climb to the top. A lot of shopping and restaurants in town. The air con was very much needed and clmade the room lovely and cool. Great breakfast spread, we really enjoyed the yoghurt and granola pots that were already made up. We also looked forward to the daily fact/tip about bled/slovenia on our table at breakfast. Location is great, a short walk down the hill to the lake, lots of lovely restaurants around the hotel and bled union bus stop about 1 min walk.
