A great city to do a border run, particularly if you stay at Fortune Riverview Hotel Chiang Khong - which seems to be the nicest accommodation in the area. We enjoyed our stay here quite a bit and would return.

Chiang Khong, a lovely little town next to the river.
Chiang Khong, a lovely little town next to the river. Views are amazing and the food is good. It is not very big so staying for an extended time may be dull for some. Great for relaxing and quiet. Excellent for walking and/or riding bicycles.

I liked to have riverview.
I liked to have riverview. We had two single beds that we rearranged such that they were mire close to eachother. Not perfect but ok. For one person the bed was too hard, for the other it was good. Was great to be on the (small) balcony to look at the river, but there were no seats.
I used the pool, but at the time of the day the two high building on the side avoided all sunshine to warm up the water. We also had to use our own towels from the room, one per person.
Checkout was fast without checking the room. Few hours after we left, we were in Chiang Rai already, staff called us that they we left behind a watch. They agreed to send it to our home in Chiang Mai. Great service that we really appreciate.

Super warm welcome from reception. Room was spotless & overlooking the river. Magnificent views of Laos and the Meakong River
Breakfast there wasn’t much choice and everything was cold. Hotel should invest in a coffee machine and make a variety of eggs to order so breakfast is warm

The staff was very friendly.
I liked that the hotel had a few bikes that were free to use (although they could use a little TLC).
I found the sheets and comforters on my bed to be really soft and cozy. And the bed was was very big—nice and wide!

Very peaceful location surrounded by nature ideal for border crossing to Loas. Run by lovely family who will pick you up from Chiang Khong and take you to the immigration point to start your journey to Loas.
