The town of Zara is located on the highway from Trabzon to Mersin, making it a convenient overnight stop. Nestled in a valley between mountains, the town offers views of snow-capped peaks and eagles in flight. The town is clean. The main street is lined with small, provincial shops. Men sit at the entrances, drinking tea. It has the pleasant, quiet atmosphere of a non-touristy Turkish town.
