The room was set up beautifully - a lot of thought had gone into the presentation and everything was very new and clean. There was plenty of space in the bathroom, the seat with a view down over the town and to the sea was a perfect spot to sit and admire the view, the beds were very comfortable, the tea provided was very nice, and the wooden details throughout the room and the shared entrance area were beautiful. Much of Jiufen has very narrow streets and stairs that taxis cannot navigate, but this accommodation was very convenient as an taxi can drop you off on the road at the top of the hill less than a minute's walk away.

Nikki was the most incredible host, she truly is amazing. You have the 2 bed property to yourself up on the hill with stunning views of the sea and surrounding area. Nikki lives a few door up and you can go there for a great breakfast, she sends you links by phone of restaurants, car parks at tourist sights and will assist you any way she can. The property is up on the hill as said so involves a few winding roads but without going up hill you won't get the views, also parking is around 100 mtrs from the property but this is flat and an easy walk. A gem of a find and a gem of a host .

The hotel is clean and is located a walking distance to the old street. It is also located high up so that you can get a view of the area when the weather is clear, and the area around the hotel is quiet. We came late in the evening. The housekeeper/owner asked us if we have eaten dinner. When we said no, he kindly gave us free cup noodles since most of the restaurants were already closed. There were complimentary snacks and tea on the common area by the reception. We were unfortunate with the weather, as it was raining the whole day after we arrived. It was good that they have umbrellas that guests can borrow from the hotel. The umbrellas are very practical to have when the rain is light or moderate, but not when it is heavy and windy. When we got back to the hotel, our clothes and shoes were soaking wet. It was good that we had a shoe dryer in the room, as well as dehumidifier. The owner/housekeeper can only talk Chinese, but we had good communication with the help of Google Translate. The hotel is located near a charming cafe that looks like a greenhouse from inside. The hotel has a partnership with the cafe, so we got 10% off our orders. The cafe serves good breakfast and tea.

I really enjoyed just escaping Tapei for a few days and...

I really enjoyed just escaping Tapei for a few days and basking in the nature, even if one day was just storms and rain. There was some vegan options at Old Street and at the hotel, and the view across the water was incredible. If you have any physical issues, keep in mind there are a lot of steep steps, hills and cobblestone pathways that may limit accessibility.

Tourist trap.

Tourist trap. Beautiful for photos (if you're ok with hundreds of people in the background) but everything else was bad -- soooo overcrowded. The food was bad (except for pineapple cakes) and everything was only open during the peak of the day - around 10-7, so forget about breakfast or a late dinner. If you insist on seeing it then I think a day trip would suffice, sadly staying the night was not at all beneficial because once the day tourists leave on their tour busses, the whole place shuts down with metal doors on all the shops in the street so doesn't even make for a good photo.

A tip to other guests: you can take a taxi from the train...

A tip to other guests: you can take a taxi from the train station directly to this hotel and cost 270NTB, instead of spending many minutes climbing the stairs and getting lost like I did. I didn't know earlier and wasted a lot of time. But on my way down the host called a taxi for me, saved me the pain of carrying a suitcase down. Remember to bring your own shampoo and conditioner, and bring a bath towel if you are used to the hotels in Taipei.

Jiufen, specifically the Old Street area, is no doubt a...

Jiufen, specifically the Old Street area, is no doubt a touristy area. My husband and I had a lot of fun trying the different food and snacks and walking through Old Street and seeing all the lanterns lit up. The morning mist added a little magic to the place. We opted to stay overnight so we can enjoy the village after the tour groups have left during the evening and before they arrived in the morning. Would recommend anyone to do the same. You get to see the charm of Old Street and the village when the crowds are gone. The view of the mountains and sea from the village was breathtaking. It was a great way to slow down after spending time in Taipei.

I went to visit the mining sights and its related history.

I went to visit the mining sights and its related history. I enjoyed the scenic views. As a photography enthusiast I took a lot of average photos as I am not a good photographer. But I like to take a lot photos. Old Jiufen Street was very busy with many tourists and a lot of things to buy and eat. I like walking through the neighborhoods to see how the locals live.

This is a compact space, one of only a few rooms that have guests in this traditional house near the centre of Jiufen. The house is a stylish combination of raw concrete, natural wood and tile. The room is quite small, with a raised, queen-sized mattress, a shelf spanning the room and stool as well. A small breakfast is included with the stay. The shared bathroom is quite stylish, and the kitchen has many appliances, dishes, and fridge space that can be used by guests. The electrical and hot water are quite good.

The location is very good. After getting round in the evening along Jiufen old street you can just walk back to the hotel and relax. The place is very quiet and clean (well, not super super clean but you can expect a very good level of cleaness for this old house) The place is also very cute and traditional. The breakfast is exceptional. You can sit on the balcony and enjoy Jiufen view during having breakfast. The people who take care of the place are very nice and caring. This fulfill our Jiufen trip <3

The location of the hotel is just minutes away from Jiufen Old Street! Really lovely and convenient. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. We really appreciate it that they provide Halal breakfast for us. The breakfast was just superb and tasty. The rooms are very clean and we had an amazing view of the mountains and the sea. We could not ask for more. We will definitely come again. Thank you very much Happyland B&B for such a lovely stay.
