We absolutely loved the place and the hosts, Tomasz and Maggie, who welcomed us wholeheartedly and went out of their way to accommodate our requests. Since we traveled during the low season, we were kindly offered an upgrade to the Ocean Room — and we loved it! We only left the property once, for a snorkeling tour, because everything we needed was right there. The food at the restaurant was excellent, and we chose to dine in every night.

The room was very big and comfortable. Breakfast was awesome, big and many options. Very good food the the hotel. Friendly and helpful owners. The hotel is not right on the beach but the beach is very close, it is a walking distance or you can also use a free bike. That was actually the reason why we selected this hotel as you may use bikes to get to some other nearest locations/beaches without any extra cost. Still, you probably need to be aware that during the day it will be very hot and a bike adventure might be a challenge, and at night the road will be the darkest place on Earth. If you plan to use the bikes bring your own light. The ones at the hotel didn't have any lights which seemed to be a rule on Zanzibar.

This was a beautiful oasis for our family. After 33 hours traveling to get to Zanzibar we use our time there to get climatized before doing a safari in Tanzania. The staff were super friendly. Food and drinks were great. Loved it!

This is a property with the most friendly a charming atmosphere I have ever been. Extremely friendly. helpful and willing staff, obviously very precisely chosen. Nothing is a problem for the owner Maria and Paco. Their motto is: everything has a solution. The guest satisfaction is very important for them and do all to reach this goal. No difference between photos on booking and the reality. If I will go to the Zanzibar again, I will not even think about any other property to stay.

Matemwe is a perfect destination for anyone who wants peace and quiet, but still has access to great activities. You can easily arrange dolphin watching and swimming tours – look for Captain Lucho, he helped us with everything and made the experience amazing. A beautiful and relaxing place to stay!

Matemwe was nice - the beach part.

Matemwe was nice - the beach part. Sad to see the poverty behind the gates of the hotel. The tides were a bit different from what we have expected as the water would leave the beach at 9am and return around 5pm. If you did not make it to swim early in the morning, you missed it. We took a reef walk which was beautiful, saw a lot of see creatures, and that was very amazing experience. Also took a boat tour to see the sunset - it was worth the trip. Did not like how the locals would just stop on the beach and start shouting at you to buy smth. Also the part of the hotel beach is not segregated in any way, which does not give you a privacy enough. The food was amazing though - the hotel goes much beyond - and all day brekfast concept was amazing.

Matemwe is ideal for relaxing and spending quality time with friends and family. Matemwe is near Mnemba island 🏝️ for swimming with dolphins 🐬 . We rode bicycles 🚲 around the village and the place felt very safe. There are few alternative places for lunch or dinner. Not too far from stone town.

The snorkeling was a true adventure, with well-protected marine life and crystal-clear water. Spotting the dolphins was an unexpected bonus! Visiting the sea turtle rehabilitation center and feeding them was a special experience.

Matemwe beach was huge and totally uncrowded - some days we were lucky to see 10 - 20 people pass by! Loved the Massai beach hawkers - friendly and laid back happy to have their pictures taken - no hassle or relentless chasing - once told 'no' they respected our space. Recommend a day trip to Nungwi for a completely different vibe and fantastic sunset. Matemwe is somewhat isolated and if you want to get around you need to secure the number of a local taxi driver - always bargain hard beforehand. Most hotels organise trips/tours but at a premium.

It was a quieter beach which was nice which also meant not too many people hassling you to buy things. Those that did were respectful. Beach is nice but the sea depth is very shallow most of the day so swimming wasn't the easiest and there was a lot of seaweed when we were there.

The restaurant of the hotel is exceptional. By far the best food we had in Zanzibar. The menu is both sophisticated yet simple, it has plenty of choices with very fresh ingredients and really well cooked dishes. Definitely a highlight of our stay. The hotel is clearly run in a very ethical way with a clear ambition to give back to the local community and reduce its environmental impact which was really appreciable. Loved the tours that were organised with local guides, loved the kindness and dedication of the staff.

AMAZING , it was just amazing … amazing facilities, amazing staff , shoutout to dennis the football coach , he was super kind and respectful. I’ve been to zanzibar 7 times and the mira was definitely by far the best resort I have stayed in . The food was amazing , there was ALOT of seafood and a variety of seafood in each al a cart or buffet restaurant.you can’t run out of an option to eat and can’t run out of activities to do. Spectacular hotel !

We loved the cosy and intimate environment of the Marafiki Beach Hotel. It's a place to unwind and relax from the hustle and bustle and enjoy quiet time to soak up the sun, read a good book, take a dip in the pool or go for a walk on the beach. The hotel management has a welcome personal touch and the staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and tastefullly furnished. From our balcony we enjoyed a wonderful view of the ocean!

What a gorgeous villa. An absolute paradise, right on the Indian Ocean. The decor is stunning with a wonderful combination of polished concrete and wood. Air conditioning in each bedroom and a welcome pool. Staff were very helpful with booking transfers. Plenty of restaurants along the beach, Zanzibar Queen being our favourite. A perfect spot for a getaway. Would love to go back.
