LOVED my time at Tamu Tamu hotel in Zanzibar. The location right next to Pwani Mchangani on the eastern coast was perfect - super quiet with not too many tourists and a nice village with a few restaurants nearby. We really preferred it to hectic Stone Town and touristy Nungwi Beach for example. The rooms were beautiful and clean, we really appreciated the attention room service put into making sure everything was neat when we got back from a daytrip. The pool area was beautiful too, we could have easily spent a whole week just lounging there. The food at the restaurant was great too, the breakfasts were copious with many options to choose from and the urojo (a local soup they made for us upon demand) was the most delicious thing I tasted on my trip to Tanzania. They also have a nice menu of snacks to enjoy poolside and a fantastic happy hour deal with very good cocktails. Finally, the staff, absolutely lovely, super helpful and always around in case we needed anything. I appreciated their help with transportation around the island and booking activities, like a spice tour and visit to Stone Town. Honestly for the price, this place is unbeatable. It's a boutique hotel where you're afforded more attention than in the 3 times more expensive large resorts more north. Thank you Tamu Tamu for a fantastic stay!

Our room was incredible with a beach front. The beach has no sea urchins so you can swim safely. The beach is private and has very good security. The bar has awesome drinks. The food was exceptional and of the highest quality, this includes sea food and swahili food. The animation team was a lot of fun and made us really enjoy our stay. The manager Amir was extremely friendly and and helped us with everything we need, he did above and beyond for us.

Such a wonderful spacious private apartment to chill out in for a few days. Sonia and her staff were faultless hosts and we loved our time staying here as a family of four with our teenagers. Breakfasts were delicious and plentiful and we enjoyed having a little kitchen to make smoothies and other food during our days here. Sonia and her team can organise anything you would like to do and made our stay so easy. Highly recommend.

The nearby beaches are scenic, but there are some important things to consider. The ocean is full of sea urchins, making swimming risky without proper footwear. During the day, low tide pulls the water far from the shore, so swimming may not always be possible. If you walk toward the reef, expect to be approached frequently by local beach vendors, which can feel intrusive — especially when you're clearly not carrying money. Local security presence is minimal, so don't expect much intervention in these situations. It's best to come prepared and manage your expectations if you're looking for a peaceful swim.

This part of Zanzibar offers a quieter, more serene setting compared to some of the more tourist-heavy areas. One of the things we appreciated most was that we weren’t constantly approached by local vendors, allowing us to fully relax and soak in the peaceful atmosphere.

Authentic village. We didn't want to be in a resort. The villagers were so friendly and wanted nothing in return apart from a hello back. There is a little shop just outside the gate for water etc. We got fruit for smoothies from the fruit stall in the village, they also sold sprite etc, there was a mobile shop and two lovely seafood restaurants. Our favourite was Mzuri run by a really friendly guy Hassan, wonderful succulent seafood. We loved it. It was just what we were looking for - authentic and local. The road is not graded, but I walk with a stick and it was fine for me. A few stretches were unlit but we take head torches.

The food was OK, the room was massively spacious and i loved it ,staff were friendly despite communication breakdown in most instances due to language barriers. Mr Betrand was so sweet a staff he made our stay so memorable always caring and bringing out the best out of us. Remo the property manager was awesome 👌

Absolutely amazing place ! We were lucky to get our rooms very close to the beach, so we were just a few steps away from the most stunning , white sanded beach. The hotel is located in lush gardens with loads of birds. Everything is cool and in the shade and very calm. The staff are a total delight, always smiling and extremely helpful. The food is always freshly prepared and always plentiful, even for the very hungry.. It is the perfect place if you are looking for a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.

The area is less touristy than other places which suited us and gave an authentic feel on the beach. The beach boys helped us to organise affordable and fantastic trips Local restaurants recommended by Sonia were excellent and great seafood variety Breakfast daily was also delicious I would recommend Zanzibar to all my family and friends
