Death Valley was closed due to flooding caused by landslides...
Death Valley was closed due to flooding caused by landslides (!). We stayed overnight at the Longstreet Inn & Casino in the Amargosa Valley. While it wasn't a substitute for driving through Death Valley, it was the only possible alternative. And we liked it. The food in the restaurant was good. There's also a small supermarket.

The room was very spacious and light, and well appointed.
The restaurant had a limited menu but food was fine and the waitress worked hard and efficiently.
The hotel surroundings were somewhat unusual, but fun, with a great view out into Death Valley.
Really great value for money.

A hotel with a restaurant, shop, casino and gas station in the middle of nowhere!
We only spent one night there, but had no complaints.
