I stayed in Gillette overnight.

I stayed in Gillette overnight. I went to the Rockpile Museum and the Frontier Auto Museum. The Rockpile was full of local history, with a bit of everything: archeology, paleontology, anthropology and local heroes. Frontier Auto Museum is interesting for just about anybody. It is packed with consumer history, from old coffee cans to medicine to oil and gasoline logos. Look closely, you may miss something.

Gillete is a very small town with zero public transport so the only reason to go there is if you wanted to visit the sacred mountian "Matao Tepei" / Devils tower / bear lodge (1st national monument). You;d really have to get your own vehicle or find some local to help (you;d have to be really lucky to do so) there is no other way to commute really, the 2 taxi services in Gillete have closed down, nobody offers tours to this place, the community visitors center has no information or help either, and Gillete has like 1-2 max cars for ubers and they dont show up often... Going from huelet instead of gillete via drive / tour or doing this epic mountian visit as part of a longer south dakota - wyoming bus / preplanned tour might be a safer bet. They offer tours from denver / salt lake which are very economical, well laid and safer bets for people who are not driving or not familiar with these places as they are wild and filled with just open spaces for long distances so one can feel stranded if all by themselves and not knowing where/ how to commute. The internet is bad and you lose maps too in certain pockets. I went to gillete as that was the only closest city to this mountain but I had no idea they dont have a single tour / facility / way to go to this place at all! its an untapped business segment actually as this mountain is truly sacred and worth visiting and nobody offers its tours from its closest city! This 'Matao Tepei' mountain, the sacred place is magical and must be visited for sure as it has a very powerful energy and truly extraordinary but reaching here is a bit challenging so plan ahead.

We stopped in Gillette during a 3-day drive home so we could have a nice dinner and visit Devil's Tower the following morning. We were pleasantly surprised at the number of restaurant choices, and the town looked more interesting than I was expecting. We won't hesitate to stay there again.

Nicer than expected.

Nicer than expected. I had no problem getting around in Gillette. I was there to watch a high school basketball tournament, the sights I saw were mostly sweaty youth in their town uniforms! But, I had a fun time, doing that!🙂

Room needs maintenance. Shower handle falls off.

Room needs maintenance. Shower handle falls off. Whole floor shakes when air conditioning kicks in. Debris on floor. This is my third stay here and this was nothing like my stay last week. The mattresses were from 1967. No one at the desk for 3:30 check in. If I wasn’t so tired and traveling with someone handicapped, I would have got back in the car.

Wyoming has beautiful mountains to hike, the first National monument, Devils Tower, cute downtowns in the bigger cities and a Bison ranch that you can tour and be out with those beautiful animals! Plus much more to see and do. It is a wonderful state.

The staff were really friendly and helpful. Close to supermarkets and restaurants. Clean room and good breakfast. Great washer/dryer. Felt safe with my camping equipment in the car. It was a good deal, I recommend this hotel if you are passing by.

The room was spacious and very clean. It was also equipped with a kitchenette, which was handy. The hotel has a laundry, which the guests can use free of charge. Breakfast was quite decent. All in all, great value for money.
