FAQs about hotels in Cape Town

Cool, Colourful Cape

Between mountains and beaches, the 2nd largest city in South Africa mixes history, resilient modernity, and a typical laidback African character. From the top of Table Mountain to the colourful Bo Kaap quarter, and from the Victoria & Albert Waterfront to the modern business district, Cape Town blends multicultural influences and beautiful nature.

Known as Kaapstad in Afrikaans, its sunny weather and mild temperatures make it a perfect place to enjoy the large number of beaches that surround it. From Sunset Beach to Hout Bay, and from Simon’s Town to Gordon Bay, this city offers a variety that suits all tastes. Whale and dolphin watching is a popular activity in False Bay.

Located on the Cape of Good Hope, the city was founded in 1652 by a Dutch trading company as a way-station for ships travelling to the East Indies. With the settling process, all sorts of foreign plants were introduced, including the grapes in the famous Cape Winelands District, just outside Cape Town.

Cape Town’s history does have some darker periods, and some of its memorable places from this time deserve to be visited: Robben Island jail, the City Hall from which Nelson Mandela gave his first public speech, and the statues of the 4 South African Nobel Peace Prize winners on the V&A Waterfront.

Staying in Capetown was terrific!

Staying in Capetown was terrific! Almost Every angle of the City is a picture moment. South Africa, Capetown and the other towns around it are hidden gems. That most North Americans don’t know about. We would definitely come back here and would bring our kids along with us.

Love the scenery with the mountains as a backdrop, the ocean, and the mix of modern architecture blended in with the old colorful houses on the hills. Have explored and enjoyed several local coffee shops and restaurants. Downtown area and V&A Waterfront easy to get around by foot, UBER an affordable option to get to the nearby suburb and wineries in Constantia, or why not rent a bicycle and head out on a trek to one of the beaches. Can't wait to be back again next year.

Beautiful but trying to do Touristy things is difficult on a weekend as it is so busy. Tourists get charged a ridiculous amount of money compared to locals. A must is a walking food tour through Bokoop. Was a great experience

Stunning natural beauty (see the pictures for yourself). Safer than Johannesburg. Friendly people. Easy to drive around with a hired car. Plenty of food choices to choose from. Suggested places to see: Kirstenbosch Bottanical Gardens Sea point promenade V&A waterfront (more of a night vibe) Table Mountain Chapmans peak Hout Bay Cape Point Highly recommend Wembley Roadhouse in Athlone for delicious food that's open until late.

We were worried about safety but there are plenty of security people around town and we only felt wary when walking around at night. Plenty to see and do. Absolutely pick your time to go to Table mountain - if you don't do fast track you might have to wait over 2 hours. V&A waterfront shopping isn't cheap! Easy to get around town on the hop on hop off bus. The city pass is definitely worth the money.

Cape Town is beautiful and if you enjoy seeing the stark contrasts between those who have and those who do not, then you won't be troubled by what the city will present to you. The city has a lot to answer for in allowing Cape Town to be sold to the highest bidder and the continuing lack of access to affordable housing is one of the results of this greed. These workers, who enable the tourist economy to happen have huge distances to travel between work and home. The quality of the seawater has to be monitored because there is a daily quota of untreated wastewater that gets pumped into the seas that nestle the shorelines of the blue flag beaches. Travel with a conscience, travel to make a difference, travel to invest in the people of the place not just consume what it has to offer.

We really enjoyed our stay at Xenia Aparthotel by Totalstay! The property felt incredibly secure, giving us peace of mind throughout our visit. The staff were warm and welcoming, always ready to assist with anything we needed. The internet was fast and reliable, making it easy to stay connected. Plus, the location is unbeatable—it’s so close to the V&A Waterfront, which made exploring Cape Town convenient and fun!

This was a nice boutique hotel which we stayed at the end our stay in Cape Town and the Garden Route. It was perfect for a night back in Cape Town before flying back home. We were able to leave our bags in the hotel without any issues whilst we did our last tourist activities before flying. It is the perfect location to see Robben Island and the V&A waterfront area. The staff were lovely and super helpful.

1. The location is great, it is a walking distance from V & A Waterfront, clubs, and the Cape Town International Convention Centre. 2. The restaurant food was great. We had breakfast everyday, lunch on 1 day, and dinner on 1 day. 3. The hotel has a beautiful roof top bar which sells good food. 4. The rooms are modern and comfortable. We had a nice view of the Table Mountain.
