Bewertung übersetzen Just outstanding. We were a bit reluctant in arrival being given the basement apartment next to the seaside entrance door (101). But neither the street in front nor the entrance door turned out to be a nuisance (it was indeed quite comfortable). After it turned out that this was indeed the room I booked, we started to be happy and enjoyed our stay very much. Even the fact of not having the expected washing machine (some sports clothes were in dire need), had no negative impact, as washing was offered and issued properly. Trevor, Banash (?) and his colleagues couldn’t have been more helpful, attentive & gentle. The place was clean, modernly furnished and equipped with everything needed for an even longer stay. Even bottled water and milk were in rhe fridge. Oh, yes, a tea towel would be fine next time. The town is just around the corner. Frances café, 1 min walk, just great for breakfast. We would be happy to return to Esplanade Hermanus and their friendly staff.

Let me start this review with a little spoiler: we had originally booked just one night, as a stopover on our road trip along the Garden Route. Well, barely 20 minutes after our arrival — after the tour of our room and the entire hotel, all the way to the terrace with that breathtaking view — we booked an extra night. It was love at first sight with Birkenhead House! What a hotel! How often do you still see that these days, by the way: people taking the time to show you not just your room, but the whole hotel? You can really feel how proud everyone here is — and rightly so! Having all meals and drinks included in the rate is also an incredible asset. And rest assured, no crowded buffets here, but friendly and discreet table service for your meals, as well as in the lounges or out on the terrace for a drink. Top-notch! Oh, and excellent beds too, featuring the best sleep aid in the world: the sound of the ocean! It’s actually that unique blend of the true boutique hotel atmosphere (a term that’s often overused but absolutely fitting here), the in-cre-di-ble location perched on the cliffs with (literally!) views of breaching whales behind the surfers, the intimacy, the delicious food & drinks, the stunning views from almost every spot, and — above all! — the wonderful staff, that make this hotel so exceptional. A huge thank you to the entire team for making our stay at Birkenhead House an absolute highlight of our trip! (...and thank God our room was available for that extra night!) :-)

The room/apartment exceeded our expectations in terms of size, decor, views from the room, fireplace, kitchen facilities and the best part it being central to everything in Hermanus. We parked safely right next to our door in gated garage, but we never even used the car, we walked and explored the whole Hermanus from right out of our hotel room/apartment.

We always enjoy the markets.

We always enjoy the markets. We loved the food at Groves Cafe. Great waffles, bacon and cheese croissant, vegetarian options. Friendly smiles and service. We always stop at Gelato Mania at least once for a cool and refreshing experience. Beside the sad music when we arrived at Mozambik, the food was really good and the cocktails awesome. The music improved after we asked :D We got some great pieces from Village Jewelry. There is a gorgeous bracelet that was above my bracket but maybe next time. We also enjoy thrifting and we stopped at a few great shops. Parking is always an issue so walk when you can. Always a great time to be had. Just remain gracious and respectful.

We had a wonderful stay at Whale Away Guesthouse.

We had a wonderful stay at Whale Away Guesthouse. Our host welcomed us warmly on arrival and took the time to tell us about all the best things to see and do in Hermanus. The room was stylish, perfectly clean, and the personal welcome note with chocolates and flowers made us feel truly special and at home. The luxurious bathroom products were an unexpected treat, adding to the feeling of a very high-end stay. On our anniversary, she surprised us with a bottle of wine and a handwritten congratulatory note — such a thoughtful and heartfelt gesture, and we really appreciated the effort she put in.

Hermanus has an upmarket laid back feel.

Hermanus has an upmarket laid back feel. Lots of lovely independent boutiques, shops and galleries. Restaurants are plentiful, serving great food and of course great wines too. The wine glass does wine tastings and also good food. We also had takeaway bake and chips from The Walker Bay fish and chip shop - they were excellent! Also worth a mention was Flick’s for Tapas and also Theo’s Greek restaurant. The cliff path is a great way to get some exercise and watch the dolphins and whales!

Lovely views from a scenic coastal path.

Lovely views from a scenic coastal path. Part of the costal path towards the town is in need of repair and therefore closed but doesn’t distract from the great views. During the season whale watching can be great to see. Bars and restaurants are of a good standard, for us the steaks at Chard’s are excellent and well worth trying

One of the most beautiful seaside towns in South Africa, if not the world. The waterfront offers a multitude of excellent restaurant options, and at night has a warm and welcoming ambience. The Sky Bar offers an exciting range of cocktails and has a lovely buzz. The cliff walk is a must-do, offering breathtaking views along the coastline and across Walker Bay.

Hermanus is a very nice place we always enjoy ourselves there people are nice and friendly, and the beaches is nice and clean We enjoy the walkways to and from the beach area. We need more Halaal places to eat or to visit in Hermanus. Thanx very much for everything

Love that it was central and in walkable distance to most places in Hermanus Also loved the fact that it was situated above a Checkers centre- very accessible. The unit was exceptional, everything was to my liking. I was so impressed with everything. It was a hotel but it felt very homey. Wish I booked an extra night but will definitely be back

it was our second stay in this hotel after 2023 and the hotel is still fantastic very near from grotto beach in hermanus the staff and managers are also very friendly. rooms are big and very clan and the breakfast is also very good we will be back

really warm hearted, welcoming staff! We had an apartment with a small private pool and sea view. It was amazing!! So sad to leave after just one night. We loved Hermanus! Could spot some whales just 1 minute walking distance from the hotel :)
