While Griffon's rest is not for everyone - no electricity, but with an inverter to charge mobile phones and portable lights, the location is excellent! Deep inside the heart of the Marikela National Game Reserve. I was told on the day of my arrival that I missed an elephant sighting by about 30 mins! On our roadtrip to Botswana we stayed at Marula Cottage Lodge for three nights in total (two on the way to Botswana and one on the way back to the Airport in Johannesburg). We highly recommend staying with Monika and Dave! The Lodge is located in a beautiful quiet area near Thabazimbi. The rooms are comfortable and equipped with everything one could need. We really enjoyed the breakfast and especially the freshly cooked dinners. From the lodge it’s only a short drive to Marakele National Park, which is also worth a visit. Overall we want to thank Monika and Dave for their amazing hospitality, helpful advice and great contribution to our vacation. We hope to be back soon!

The stay was better than we have expected. The hotel is amazing so are the rooms. The team is awesome. Linda and Jennifer took really good care of us and Caitlynn, our guide was amazing. She listened to us and helped us find the animals we were hoping to see. Marataba made our honeymoon awesome. It's truly one of the best hotels we've ever been to. The little attentions and surprises made our stay unforgettable.

The owner is really adorable and so friendly. Loved staying there. Close by everything even though your just on the end of town. Quiet and relaxed.

I loved waking up to the beautiful mountains views. It is exactly what I was looking for, the view, serenity, a running/walking trail for those who like that, perfect for someone who wants to have a peaceful place that feels like home away from home. The kitchen and the bathroom are spacious. And she was kind enough to let me park my car under the shade since it was raining. Laurette (the owner) made sure that I was comfortable as possibly as I can. She was also kind enough to educate me about her plants and for letting me have her tasty fruits that were ripe in her garden. I also got some plants to plant back in Jhb. The hospitality at Van Ross was out of this world. I feel like I am part of the family now.
