Free WiFi is available at the lobby and guestrooms. This hotel was selected as one of the Top 25 B&Bs and Inns in Japan by TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Award 2015. We have traveled to so many countries and stayed at so many homestays, hotels, bed and breakfast - you name it. This place, however, was one of the best - if not THE BEST - place we have ever stayed at - WORLDWIDE! such a friendly atmosphere there. The food is simply AMAZING!! the views are mind-blowing. The hosts are extremely friendly and go above and beyond to make your stay the best ever and as authentic as it can get. This is exactly what we had wished for during our Japan trip. It was simply great and madr our trip to Japan. The elderly man, his wife and their son as well as the whole staff was exceptional. ARIGATO! THANK YOU SO MUCH! PS: the onsen with views to the river (and the second one as well) is simply true bliss. Great!!!!!

Located in the centre of Takayama Historic District, Ryokan Tanabe 旅館田邊 is one of the most historical ryokans in the city. It features Japanese-style rooms and free WiFi in all areas. Guests can request relaxing massage treatments or soak in the indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths, which are made of rocks and cypress wood. Everything! This was the most beautiful ryokan with wonderful staff who were welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. We had breakfast and dinner in our room and they were both superb - beautifully presented, exceptional tastes and served gracefully by the staff. A true delight! The amenities were comfortable and the onsen beautiful with both indoor and outdoor baths. The hospitality of Ryokan Tanabe is exceptional - if you are looking for a great ryokan experience I highly recommend staying here.

Just 40 metres from restored Edo-era post town Magome-Juku, Chaya Hotel has simple traditional rooms with futon bedding and a tatami-mat floor. It has a hot public bath, and Japanese meals are available for a fee. Magome Chaya guesthouse is right in the middle of the small town of Magome. Could not ask for a more central location. The location along with the hard working and friendly staff made for an incredible stay. We did not do dinner, but we did have breakfast. The food was simple traditional Japanese breakfast, but was very hardy, tasty and kept us going on our hike that day. If you are going to hike the trail and need a simple friendly place to stay, this is it.

Awarded in 2014 with TripAdivsor’s Certificate of Excellence, Takayama Ouan features traditional Japanese designs and tatami (woven-straw) flooring throughout. It boasts a rooftop open-air natural hot-spring bath, cosy family baths and a hearty homemade breakfast buffet. Free WiFi is available throughout the property. JR Takayama Station is located a 3-minute walk away. The hotel is only a 4 min walk from the station and very close to other landmarks nearby even hida folk village! The staff was amazing and the whole hotel is strictly no shoes policy. They provide comfortable socks to walk around the hotel areas which gives a very pleasant and traditional feel as all the rooms and hotel floors are tatami! The hotel also has public onsen for men and women while also providing for 3 different private onsen which during our stay did not have trouble finding vacant! All onsen are really good! The hotel also provides lots of amenities, and price included drinks, coffees, night ramen and ice creams which were delicious after having a relaxing onsen. Highly recommended for the traditional element of the rooms and the onsen! Breakfast has plenty of choices both western and traditional! I highly recommend to try the local breakfast options.
