If you're looking for a unique and charming hotel in Varanasi, Rana Hotel is an outstanding choice. Located right on the banks of the sacred Ganges River and just a short walk from the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti ceremony, the location is simply unbeatable. Access is via the narrow, winding alleys of the old city, which adds a touch of mystery and authenticity to the experience. Reaching the room after this short journey feels like discovering a hidden paradise.
The hotel even offers the option to arrive by boat along the Ganges — an experience I truly regret missing, as it would have added a mystical dimension to the trip.
Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated with local touches. It featured three large windows, plus one in the bathroom, bathing the room in natural light and offering stunning views. The welcome was warm, the service impeccable, and the breakfast on the rooftop terrace, with breathtaking views over the Ganges and the city, was a delight.
Special mention must go to the hotel owners, whose hospitality and kindness made our stay truly unforgettable. Without a doubt, this is a place we would happily return to and recommend wholeheartedly.

The caretaker - Anil was on hand all the time to help. He helped navigate our way round Varanasi. He kept the apartment clean and safe. We weer a party of 3 adults. The location is ideal with views from 3 rooms of the Gangha.

Fantastic location at what's basically a cultural crossroads of the city. Exceptionally friendly service all around, always asking us how we're enjoying our stay with smiles on their faces. They also serve delicious vegetarian food (no non-veg options available, but Indian veg is options are great).
Located directly on the banks of the Ganges River, the secluded Palace on Steps is only accessible on foot, 10 minutes from the road.

Right on the Ganges 5 minutes from the main Ghats.
Staff were fantastic! Made us feel very welcome. There is no transport all the way. You have to get a taxi to the main road and walk about 15 mins through the alleyways. Easy to find on Google maps though.
Sanjay was absolutely marvellous, acting as our guide for our stay. Making sure we had everything we needed. He got us a prime seat for the Arti and explained everything in detail, took us to the burning ghat, sorting food and taxis and a sunrise private boat for £20. Even loaned us a plug and charger. Can’t recommend enough for service, location and hospitality.
