Brilliant stay! We loved the authentic ryokan feel with the tatami mats. We booked the kaiseki dinner which I’d highly recommend as it was so delicious. Staff were brilliant, took time to explain everything. The onsen was lovely and my first experience of it in Japan! Room was so spacious and clean. Nice quiet neighbourhood close to subway station.

Perfect location just a few steps away from Kyoto Station. Modern Japanese interior architecture, perhaps a little bit too dark for my taste. Clean, well acquitted room with all the amenities and perks one would expect. Very good breakfast, Western and Japanese. Nice and helpful staff as well the front desk as in all the restaurants. We would not hesitate to stay at The Thousand again on any future trip to Kyoto.

My wife left her purse in the cab. We asked the hotel staff for help because the cab was caught on the street and we didn't take a receipt for the trip, so we didn't know the name of the cab company. The girl at the front desk first called all the cab companies in Kyoto and then contacted the police. Our bag was found there. The hotel staff member made every effort and helped us a lot. We would like to thank her for that and say that we would love to come back to this hotel again!
