This is one of the most special places I've ever stayed. It's an authentic house in the middle of a historic town. We honestly felt like we were in a movie. Once all the tourists have gone you've got Magome to yourself. The house was really well equipped and we were very well looked after. The wooden onsen looking out onto the mountains was just incredible. Staff super helpful. They even picked us up from the train station. Just be aware that local food and restaurant options are a bit limited.

Just 40 metres from restored Edo-era post town Magome-Juku, Chaya Hotel has simple traditional rooms with futon bedding and a tatami-mat floor.

We had a wonderful stay at Magome Chaya. The rooms were clean, comfortable and had just enough space for two pieces of luggage plus the futon beds. Dinner and breakfast is also offered and it was great. We got served a variety of small japanese style dishes. Very nice experience staying at a traditional place like this. Magome itself is also just beautiful.

This place was lovely! I felt so lucky to be able to stay in such a beautifully maintained, traditional Japanese style house. Assi was a great host, he has gone to the trouble to provide all the little touches around the house and the local information a guest might need. The place is very quiet but a very short walk from the train station and some food options too.

The property is located a little away from the centre of Nakatsugawa but it’s the perfect location. Your small home is nestled amongst the Japanese maple trees and can hear the river rushing below. The house itself is over a 100 years old but with a new bathroom facility which is convenient and comfortable. The staff go above and beyond in terms of their service, and the food is exceptional. They provide a shuttle service which is very helpful and convenient as well. We would say this is one of our favourite places we stayed at in Japan and will most definitely return!

What a fantasically located and beautiful place to stay. A huge house with every comfort and amenity you could wish for, as well as every kitchen appliance you can think of. Lovely, friendly owner. The whole stay was an absolute pleasure.

Fabulous property. We felt very welcomed. The space is amazing and private. The onsens are amazing ( inside and outside onsen) and overlook a waterfall. The food was fantastic . We would recommend this place as a great experience
