Early July, we were the only travellers so we had the onsen to ourselves. There was male, female and private onsen available. There was excellent service, and they welcomed our young toddlers. We got driven to the Jigokudani Monkey Park and picked up by Yumoto-san. Yumoto-san and his wife also helped style our family in yukata for photos.

Yumoto-san has a very welcoming and lovely ryokan and we stayed in a traditional family room with shoji and tatami mats. We loved the ambiance, the view, and the onsen facilities. We also got a free lift to the snow monkey park. Great for families in a place full of character even if everything is a little dated.

Great location, excellent staff. We thought we would eat out in the evenings, but there are’’t many restaurants near by, so we booked dinner each night (and had breakfast included), the food was great with Japanese style, loads of options for us and the kids. Super fun, welcoming and easy place to stay.

Not much to be honest. When we arrived, we were told we could only have one person in each family room, even though we booked 6 rooms for 7 people, very strange! The beds were uncomfortable, and the pillow was basically a sandbag! The location was great for the Snow Monkeys, and they offer a free shuttle service, but there was no pick up. We ordered dinner and were told we had to eat somewhere else because some Karate Kid wannabe was hosting some tragic show.

It’s a stunning family run lodge, with great style. The breakfasts were outstanding, kids loved the pizzas for dinner and we all enjoyed the private onsen. It’s opposite the lift and ski school area which was fab. We had an interconnecting family room with a toilet between us and our two boys in bunk beds.

It’s VERY quiet if you like quiet. It’s a ski-in-ski-out, great for family with kids, or a big group of friends. But keep in mind there is no village. You have to eat dinner at the hotel, unless you have a car. But the owner was super lovely! Would stay there again just because of the owner!

Pick-up/drop-off to/from the station and the monkey park were super convenient. Staff were lovely and the rooms spacious - futon also really comfortable (much more than many of the regular, too-firm hotel beds and pillows in Japan). Amazing Japanese breakfast and dinner experiences. Lovely views from the hotel rooms and the cafe/bar area. Ability to book a private onsen was also a nice touch - fun experience for a couple or family.

The staff were so helpful and lovely to chat to. The stand up bar was fun, as well as the hotel onsen. Recommend this for families

The staff, the food, the facilities, the location, everything. The extra plus points: staff can understand english. the chef is great, the course meal is a must. It has indoor n outdoor onsen. The ryokan is shining brightly in the area that giving us the feeling of a safe place, especially after a stroll in a quiet n cold night. The family members are having fun strolling in yukata. Amazing experience.
