(Tripadvisor)
Despite the Akureyrarkirkja Church undergoing renovations during our visit, we found ample opportunities to immerse ourselves in the local culture. The Akureyri Art Museum offered a diverse collection of contemporary works, providing insight into Icelandic artistry. A leisurely stroll through the Akureyri Botanical Garden was a highlight; the well-maintained grounds showcased a variety of native and exotic plants. The on-site café within the botanical garden provided a cozy spot to enjoy a cup of coffee amidst the greenery.
A short drive to the nearby village of Húsavík afforded us the opportunity to embark on a whale-watching tour, a truly unforgettable experience. The sight of majestic whales in their natural habitat was awe-inspiring. Following the excursion, we dined at a local café near the whale-watching office, indulging in what we considered the best fish and chips of our trip. The freshness of the fish and the crispness of the batter were exceptional, making it a culinary highlight.
Hotel Akureyri offers a comfortable and well-located option for travelers seeking to explore the city. The prime location, and quality amenities make it a commendable choice for a stay in Akureyri.

Spacious 3 bedroomed apartment. Ours was on the ground floor. Well equipped kitchen which we really appreciated so we could prepare meals at home. There is a supermarket very close by. Very convenient location if you have a car but we also walked into the city centre a few times via the Botanic Gardens. Comfortable beds with hotel quality sheets. Plenty of towels provided too.
We were offered to bid on a room upgrade prior to arriving - I liked that. We did have a winning bid and got a deluxe room (basically a bedroom & living room area separated by a TV) with a separate shower and toilet/sink areas behind the bed. Everything was pretty comfy and decent quality. The included breakfast was pretty good, albeit with not enough variety. The location of the hotel was great - walking distance to downtown, the pool, and it had parking included, which the other main downtown hotel lacked.
The hostel was very clean with modern facilities and a spacious room. Amazing location, directly in the city centre!
First of all the location, placid, truly beachfront! Secondly the amazing bay window sea and beach views. Third the setup of the apartment, clean , modern, new, quality bedding and amenities, homey, cozy. We really appreciated a truly queen size bed at last and not two little singles together plus a very well equipped, modern kitchen. Last but not the least, a great caring owner with two wonderful doggies! (some horses too)
This was the biggest surprise on our 10 days trip around Iceland - didn’t expect such a beautiful, modern and comfortable place! The location was great, just 5 min from the ringroad. The views from the house just amaaazing, so stunning! Didn’t want to go to bed, just sit and watch outside the windows from the huge dinner area. Everything was newly renovated, great kitchen, nice rooms, perfect with kids. Huge bathrooms downstairs! So amazed by this place, would love to be back one day!
Fabulous, modern, spacious apartment with quality fittings throughout. A great location, easy walking distance to restaurants. Free parking outside the front door. Also, 50m away from a EV charging station which for me was an unexpected bonus.
