Super friendly staff, they were good at trying to communicate with those who couldn't speak Japanese, loads of English written explanations if you need them. Warm and comfy rooms. Slightly set back from the most touristy part of the town which I liked. It's all so close anyway that it really isn't a bother.

All I have been many times in koyasan and for sure i love this place for the cemetery, temples and incredible, powerfull atmosphere of koyasan but for kokuu guest-house too. Staying in a monastery in Koya is a rare experience, but for those who'd like to have that with minimal costs, there are two options: either room-or-bathroom sharing lodgings, or Sekishoin! You get to enjoy the privacy of your own room, for a reasonable price compared to everything else around. And, to top it off, the people here were lovely. There were complementary woven bracelets upon checking in. I was late to my breakfast, and I was pleasantly surprised to find it waiting for me (and needless to say, the food is delicious). There are also explanatory notes pertaining to various things in Japanese culture or monastery life, such as clothing or meals. Final note, the futon was super comfy and perfectly warm despite the cold snowy winter.

We loved the attention to detail, especially the vintage record player with Japanese vinyls and how well stocked the kitchen was (oil, spices, rice, coffee etc. - the best we had in Japan!). Staff was very accommodating. Very spacious, perfect for our group. We had to change the group size due to a mistake of our own and it was very easy to resolve, thank you for that. We had a great time!
