This was by far my favourite stay of my Japan trip. Not only was the guest house absolutely stunning and tastefully furnished, within very close proximity to the deer park, I was welcomed so warmly and it really felt like home for the night I was there. This is more than just a guest house- this is a beautiful place to bring people from all around the world together.

I was very fortunate that there were no other guests staying in the house and I had the whole space to myself, very spacious and comfortable, and the hostess Kyoko was so friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this place, close to Nara Deer Park.

We had such an amazing time at Machiya no Yado Gu! The house gave us the feeling of traditional Japan, while being kitted out with all the modern amenities we could have wished for. Spacious, quiet, tastefully designed - and an unbeatable location a stone’s throw away from Nara park. Best of all, we had one of the most incredible hosts we’ve ever encountered. He went out of his way to generously help us every step of the way. Even drove us to the train station on his actual birthday! Can’t wait to be back!

The location was much closer to JR Nara station than I expected. Easy to spot as well. They've got almost everything you can think of for a comfortable stay. They even have free tooth brush, which is very handy! The room was not that big but spacious enough to open our small-ish suitcase without any problem. The staffs are very attentive and kind.

The place was well located, close to Nara park and the train station but tucked away on a quiet street. The beds were huge and comfortable, very clean and it felt like home. I only stayed one night but wish I stayed longer. Yoko is one of the warmest and friendliest hosts I’ve had, she shared stories with me about her experiences owning a guest house, she made everyone feel very welcome, and she shared her tofu with me in the morning. My most wholesome stay in Japan by far.

Yoko the owner is the best! She welcomed me so warmly with tea and a snack and introduced me to all the guest! She gave me a small tour and really made me feel welcome. The guesthouse is really beautiful traditional style with really comfortable beds with spacious rooms. The guesthouse is also in a great location, but at the same time quiet and peaceful, it's a shame I could only stay one night. I look forward to staying here again one day. Thank you Yoko! - Andrew

Very well located next to the park. Quiet and small garden all around the house. Our host was very attentionnate. Excellent japanese breakfast. Very cheap for sleeping in a very nice neighborhood. Free bikes. We loved cycling around the small old streets of Naramachi, which is as nice as old Kyoto and lest touristic.

We loved the tatami room and the futons were very comfortable. The guest house was in a great location, on a quiet street but within walking distance of all the major sites and shopping areas. The breakfast was delicious and great value.

A very charming guesthouse, ideally located 5min walk from the JR station (Kyobate). From Nara station, it takes around 20min walk to get there. The host was amazing, so helpful and nice, giving his advice on the places to go out for dinner, public baths, etc. He helped us to send our luggage to our next step location, and we are so grateful he did. Thank you so much for this great stay, we strongly recommend this place to stay ! :)

An exceptionally clean and well-kept guesthouse in a quiet street with some shops and restaurants, still within walking distance of the park, city centre and the railway stations. There is a shared common space with TV, microwave oven, refrigerator and free coffee and tea as well as various information brochures about Nara in several languages. The owner takes care of the house herself and is incredibly nice and helpful. I enjoyed my stay here a lot!
