Ike was responsive to our questions before we arrived and helped us plan our next day's Kumano hiking itinerary based on the weather forecast. The dinner at Ike's minshuku was super tasty, we had a really good time eating and watching Ike make okonomiyaki (really good with lots of veggies which we missed in Japan). Definitely recommend getting the dinner/breakfast/lunch package, made our day after a long day's hike!

We scheduled a stay at Kumano Winery to kick-off our Kumado Kodo hike with a special Christmas Eve dinner as offered by the hosts. Unsure about what to expect, the dinner by Chef Giovanni truly blew us away. Each course was delightful, and their love for the Kumano region and yagi (goat) cheese was apparent in each dish. It's no wonder they have received multiple awards for their restaurant and the yagi cheese. The location seems isolated, but there is enough to enjoy within the guest house itself - picnic table with a view of Tanabe and the sunset, warm rooms with your own little sitting area, fantastic food prepared by the hosts, chatting with Chef Giovanni and Yutaka who were both warm and accommodating. We felt relaxed immediately, making it the perfect way to start our trip.

Amazing place to stay if you are doing the Kumano Kodo trail. Clean, simple, has everything you need and the staff is lovely! very Japanese style and cool place full of music instruments. They gave me a delicious dinner for free and the food was very good. Was just the experience I was looking for in this path.

To say we were well looked after, would be a massive understatement. Mandy-san is a very special person and her kindness has deeply touched us. Besides having the luck to enjoy her many skills as the wonderful host she is, my girlfriend also had an acupuncture session with her. Mandy-san was both incredibly gentle and precise, almost as if she had a sixth sense. Our stay at SOLA guesthouse in one word? Magical! :)
