The location is amazing (cut through directly across the road to the ski run) very close to dinner/bar options and convenience stores. The owner/host, Miwa, is absolutely lovely, very welcoming and helpful. I took advantage of ski rental delivery. Very nice to have the small onsen. Stunning view of Mt Yōtei, if you’re lucky.

The staff at Grandpapa are both very friendly and helpful, they ensured that our stay was very pleasant. The breakfast option served in the morning is delicious and gives you energy for a day on the slopes (¥300 per day). Grandpapa also offers a complementary shuttle service to the base of the mountain ensuring you can make it to the first chair which is awesome. They were also super accommodating when an extra friend decided to join us, upgrading us to a triple room. This is a great place to stay in Hirafu especially if you are a super keen snowboarder/skier who wants a more down to earth/ski lodge stay.
