Villa Malie ensured that any and all questions were answered and were so considerate. For example, I let them know I needed to checkout at 330am. Fruits and juice were sent to my room to keep in the fridge that afternoon, as well as a fresh pot of coffee being made at that time for my departure. I also had an issue with my car during an early morning arrival. Villa Marie helped me in the odd hours of the morning. They also connected me with a tour guide and provided an excellent restaurant recommendation for my stay. You can tell Villa Marie cares deeply about their customers. You can't go wrong booking here for staying in Santo Amaro.

This property is set a short distance from attractions such as Cafua das Merces - Museu do Negro, Sacred Art Museum, and Sao Luis City Hall. The homestay has family rooms. Will is a great host and full of helpful information including things such as restaurants, reggae and rainbow bars. He speaks English and very communicative on WhatsApp before and during my stay. They even did my laundry. This is a great opportunity to stay in a local style house in a local neighbourhood. However the location and style might not be good for nervous or high end travellers. Will has a well stocked fridge with water and beers to enjoy on the small internal patio. You must use Uber at night and all the drivers are great - they find the address easy and stop right at the front gate then wait until you are safely inside the gate.

Asked the hotel via WhatsApp about airport transfers and tours and gave them my flight arrival and departure times/dates etc and the hotel replied within 1-2 hours with a plan and options which we then agreed on. The hotel arranged a private transfer to pick me up from Sao Luis airport upon my arrival at 1.30am for the roughly 4 hour drive to the hotel! The driver Marcelo was polite & reliable and drove safely - he WhatsApp me a photo of himself and the exact spot he would wait for me i.e. outside Subway and he was already there when I arrived at the airport and we left for the hotel in Barreirinhas straight away. The vehicle was comfortable. For the airport transfer back, the hotel arranged a shared van ride since there were other passengers also so it was much cheaper and the seat was comfy. The day tour to the 2 Lagoas/lagoons was good and the price was reasonable. Having breakfast with a view of the river was great. The room was clean, comfortable and new (just renovated?). The hotel was walking distance (about 1km or 20min walk) to the town center with its restaurants by the river (the river made a u-bend from the hotel) and there was a big supermarket along the way. The staff could not speak English but used a translator. Definitely recommend this hotel especially if you cannot speak Portuguese and you want a reliable & efficient/effective hotel to arrange pickups/transfers and tours.

Space and an enormous giant screen TV. Cute decoration. The staff works extremely friendly and helpful and even did my laundry for me at no charge.
