The room is large and the beds are so comfy and the balcony is large with an amazing view. Best place we stayed in sumatra.

Located on the beachfront, this property has a terrace and barbecue facilities. The homestay offers an outdoor fireplace, a 24-hour front desk, and free WiFi is available throughout the property. The staff are super nice, felt like home. Loved the view from the property, nice location, and walking distance to many things. Felt very safe, the neighbours are also friendly. The puppies there (Blacky & Winnie) were so cute!

Gotong Rotong bus station and convenience store are located about 10 to 15 mins away by foot. The quiet villa with nice ambience is tucked away from town. Padi fields just a few minutes walk from the villa. Tyson, Dedek and team are super friendly. Their dog Balu is a charm. They are able to organize trips to the jungle, Tangkahan, transport and etc. It's like a one-stop villa for everything. The room is of good size and bed is very comfortable. Restaurant in the villa serves good food. (One can always replenish drinking water in the restaurant.) There is no need to walk out for meals. In any case, not much choices available near the villa unless one goes to Bukit Lawang. Bukit Lawang town is 20 minutes walk from the villa walking pass local residences. If not, one can take a motorbike to the town. The jungle trek organized by Tyson comes with a friendly and knowledagble guide and assistant. Saw 2 orangutans during the trek and also a few monkeys. Trek is tough and it's goes uphill and downhill. One ought to be fairly fit. Highly recommend Sumatra Orangutan Discovery Villa.

Best place we’ve ever stayed, cannot recommend it highly enough! The beach 5 meters from the room has some of the best snorkeling we have ever tried. We even saw a sea turtle. Borja is extremely attentive and helpful, and will try to help you regardless of what you need. We stayed in both a deluxe room and later a bungalow. Both are amazing but the bungalow has a bit more privacy. It takes roughly 15 minutes by scooter to get to Gapang Beach where there are diving and freediving schools.

Guests can make use of the picnic area or the barbecue, or enjoy views of the lake and river. From the first contact on everything was organized perfectly (transport from and to the airport, the trek, finding a group to treck with etc.). The staff is really nice, you feel like family there. They also invited me for dinner and we talked about many different things, like culture differences. I did a 2 day 1 night treck with Rian (Guide), Sarol (Assistant Guide) and Mawan (Chef). A very good experience with a lot of explanations and fun. The food was also delicious. You can see, that they have a lot of experience.

A recently renovated guest house situated in Bukit Lawang, Kupu Kupu Garden Guest House & Cafe features a garden. This beachfront property offers access to a balcony. Guests can make use of the sun terrace or the outdoor fireplace, or enjoy views of the mountain and river. We had the most amazing time at Kupu Kupu. The guesthouse is so beautiful, the rooms are very clean and well-designed and the food is incredible. With the jungle at the doorstep, we really enjoyed sitting on the balcony and watch the monkeys play in the trees - it felt like we were in paradise! After two nights at the guesthouse, we did a 3 day / 2 night jungle trek our guides Wanda and Juli, which was an incredible experience. Wanda has so much knowledge about the jungle and all the living beings in it - he had a story to tell about any animal or plant we found, we enjoyed our talks with him so much! Both guides took very good care of us and always made us feel safe and well! After rafting (fun!!!) back to Kupu Kupu on the last day of our trek, we stayed at the guesthouse for one more night to relax and process our experience 🌿 Special thanks to Arif for organising everything for us (helping us with the itinerary from the airport and onwards to our next destination, picking us up from the town and organising the jungle trek) and to Risky for making us feel right at home 🙏
