Enjoyed staying here on our way from Nagasaki to Fukuoka. Takeo onsen is a beautiful little town with nice public onsen. The owners were so nice and friendly, helping us decide which public onsen to try and giving us good restaurant recommendations. We loved visiting Takeo shrine and the magical 3000 year old camphor tree 15 minutes walk from the guesthouse. Also highly recommend the cute Coffee Shop almost next door to the guesthouse.

The location had a lot of beautiful spots around it and sitting down with Take-San in the evening while trying out all types of Amami Shochu was a lot of fun.

We had an amazing time and evening with them and the other guests. We also were helped out with a vegeterian dinner since the restaurants nearby did not offer such an option. Our unexpected highlight of the trip!

This is a beautiful traditional (restored) Japanese house. Exceptionally spacious and comfortable for two people. The balcony at first floor and patio area with sun loungers to the rear were nice for relaxing at breakfast time and in the afternoon sun after a day out to Mount Aso. The highlight however was the optional barbecue evening meal in the impressive annexe. The host couple were incredibly kind and helpful and the meal was out of this world. The annexe building also has some impressive TV/audio facilities. It was a very memorable stay and we would thoroughly recommend staying here.

The host, Nita san, is super friendly and kind. She treated me almost like a grandchild of hers and provided the best tips and reminders for travelling around. The breakfast is very delicious. Bathroom is clean, spacious and homey. I got to enjoy the private onsen all by myself. All the decorations in the house is heart warming and lovely! I had a wonderful stay and even made friends with other guests. Highly recommend the place!

Property was in the middle of nowhere and that’s what we like about it! Fireplace was fun for the children. Surprisingly though amenities is not near, it turned out to be a favorite for my city kids.
