While hiking the GR10, I had the pleasure of discovering a truly special place just 2km easy walk from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, directly on the GR10 trail, in the peaceful village of Çaro. This gîte d’étape is an absolute hidden gem — a beautiful, spacious house dating back to the 1400s, lovingly maintained and full of authentic charm. The house itself is spotless and steeped in history, offering both comfort and character. Patrick, the host, is warm and welcoming. If you're interested, he's happy to share stories about the house and the region — his passion and hospitality really make the experience memorable. The homemade dinner and breakfast were delicious. After a long day of walking, it was the perfect place to rest and recharge in calm, natural surroundings. If you're looking for something more authentic than the often busy Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, this place is absolutely worth staying at.

Very friendly hostel. Great location. Lovely evening meal. The beds were comfortable and had curtains for privacy. Good breakfast to set up for first do of the Camino.
