Very nice hostel, clean and incredibly spacious rooms. Beds are comfortable, the bathroom is huge and towels are provided. Big kitchen area. It does somehow feel more like a hotel than a hostel though. Tiago is also always up for giving recommendations. Would definitely recommend staying here!

Matriz 55 Hostel & Suites has set a whole new benchmark for comfort, coziness, and genuine warmth on my travels. From the very first minutes you can tell every guest matters here: amazing breakfasts, heartfelt late-night conversations, and a snug corner with fluffy cats—for whom I’m already planning to bring treats. But the real magic is how Susan and Pedro build a true community. They don’t just greet and wave goodbye; they draw you and the other travelers into island walks, mini-events, and shared adventures. Thanks to them, exploring the island stops being a checklist of “must-see” spots and turns into an engaging journey with new friends. I’ll definitely be back for their sincere care and those “fluffy roommates” who make everything feel like home. Susan, Pedro, and your cats—you’re the best!

A grand joy to arrive into this welcoming oasis in Ponta Delgada, I got greeted by kind people who were genuinly interested in me, a rare bijou in these lands - you are far more then a customer. You are home. Easygoing, I had the opportunity to rest and be by myself, drink a coffee or play the guitar in the hammocks, or I could indulge in the cosy socialness of thought-through activities like surfing or a three-course meal by an amazing cook who brings some vegetables from his own garden. I´ts a well balanced atmosphere of community and down to earth-service. Every person who worked at this place was very loving and well-meaning people who´d Id wanted to talk more to, it was just too much fun stuff to do. And the beach is just a free electric bicycle-ride away rolling down the hills. Oh! And the BEDS were the best on the island (- and I´ve been to quite many.)

The hostel is located about 10min walk from the city center. It was very clean, even offered huge towels for showering, hair drayer, showergel. Breakfast offered even ricedrink as plantbased option. Just the lockers work with all 4 keys of the room, which doesn´t make sense and the stuff is extremely friendly, but just available from 8am-4pm during weekdays if you need anything.

It was very clean and well equiped! The owner is very friendly and helpfull. The hostel is in the city centre with everything on walking distance. I parked the car at Avenida D. Manuel I which is 500m and there is always plenty of parking space. I recommend the hostel and will visit it agian for sure.

The hotel is very well located with its own parking area. The room was huge and comfortable, with a large bathroom, and a courtyard with a nice sitting area and a bit of a sea view. Everyone was very nice and everything was extremely clean.

Hands down the best hostel I ever stayed in - the beds were clean and comfy with curtains, bathrooms had privacy and everything was very tidy. The location was amazing and we always found parking for free. The breakfasts were fresh and also very nice !

Loved the breakfast, the garden, and how accommodating they were with luggage and use of the garden area before check in and after check out. They also called us a cheap taxi on our way out. Beautiful hostel, great private room! Eat at the restaurant downstairs, their food is incredible.

The hostel has very friendly vibes. The guests can meet at a terrace with beautiful view to the ocean. The cleanliness was generally good. I felt very safe inside the hostel and even comfortable on the bunk bed - you can close the curtains and create a little "bedroom" of your own. Also the neighborhood felt very safe. It was my first experience with a hostel and taking into account the price and service, it was definitely not the last:)
