Taupo is 40 km from the hostel. I had a wonderful time at the Riverstone Lodge! Sandra was the best host, always helpful and cheerful. The common rooms and kitchen were very clean and comfortable, and it felt like living in a flat share with other travelers. The location was also great, close to the town center, and a perfect starting point for the Tongariro crossing or fishing.

Klaus, the proprietor, is a fantastic host who loves to chat while he goes about his day. 10/10 experience, can’t wait to come back!!

The facilities of the hostel were great and regularly maintained, especially loved the privacy provided by the pods and the cleanliness of the shower rooms and toilets. The kitchen was well equipped and cleaned frequently as well. Travellers that i have met there are all respectful and friendly. There are many activities organised at the hostel to allow guests to network and make friends, with activities in the morning and night almost running daily.
