Set in Kerikeri, 20 km from Opua Forest, Relax a Lodge offers accommodation with free bikes, free private parking, an outdoor swimming pool and a garden. Among the facilities at this property are a shared kitchen and a shared lounge, along with free WiFi throughout the property. The hostel provides garden views and a terrace. The place is beautiful and clean and the owner is a very kind, open person. I hope I can go back one day.

Haka House Bay of Islands is a welcoming and stylish hostel located just across from the scenic Paihia wharf, offering cosy, practical accommodations with million-dollar views of the stunning surroundings. Appreciated the friendly service provided by the staff. Traveling solo, unfamiliar to the area and only a few days to explore, the gentleman at reception had some good recommendations for a bush walk, dinner spot and some exploring on the ferry. The reception tour desk can book all tours, often with discounts, including cruises and sailing trips to the Bay of Islands and Far North. The lodge also offers a shared kitchen, dining room and indoor outdoor dining with BBQ facilities in the garden patio area. En-suite washroom was handy and a full kitchen downstairs was nice to prepare breakfasts in the morning. A very friendly staff dog to pet at the reception office and curious cat visitor was fun to relax with outside by the covered deck.

The Cell Block Backpackers hostel is a refurbished 1960's jailhouse, converted in to colourful accommodation. The property is in a central location, around 400 metres from Town Basin Marina, the main intercity bus stop and Whangarei Art Museum. It is 500 metres from Claphams Clock Museum. I loved the vibe of both the people and the place. It was such a nice space to connect with people and spend lots of time in the common areas. Plus Friday is amazing!!!

Guests can play table tennis and darts in the hostel games room (during low season) or ask the tour desk about nearby activities such as kayaking, cycling and hiking. Centabay was my favourite hostel that I stayed at in New Zealand!!! I loved the vibrant atmosphere, the lovely backpacker-staff and the wonderful manager who was always a joy to chat with. The prices are incredibly reasonable for a place in the middle of Paihia, and you can tell the manager isn't in it for the profit - she genuinely wants to help travellers have the best experience possible. The hot tub worked well and was always great to use. The hammocks and tropical garden are another bonus. I could go on and on!
