Falmouth is a peaceful hamlet located on the Surf Coast of the Great Eastern Drive on the east coast of Tasmania. The area is historic as it was the east coast's first settlement in the 1820's. The community is made up of holiday shacks and friendly permanent residents. It is a quiet neighbourhood and it is unlikely you will encounter any disturbances. Some roads are sealed, others are unsealed and there is a new footpath leading from Grant Street along to the Falmouth day use area. The neighbourhood is bike friendly, though there are some small hills. We do not supply bikes so will you need to bring your own. You can walk everywhere in Falmouth, but if you choose to drive to the beach (less than one minute drive) there are usually free parking spaces available. Falmouth attractions include Hendersons Lagoon for swimming and kayaking, Steels Beach for surfing and the Falmouth blowhole. There are beautiful coastal walking trails around the headland where you can enjoy stunning views of the sea. The neighbourhood is pet friendly, though dogs must remain on the leash. There is an off-leash beach nearby at Mariposa beach. Nearby attractions include the St Patricks Head national park in St Marys with walking trails offering beautiful ocean views (some are challenging). You can also drive to the South Sister Lookout. The Iron House winery, brewery and distillery is an eight minute drive away, in Four Mile Creek. For surfers, the notable Cattle Grids surf break is 5 minutes away. Scamander is a short ten minute drive away and offers a supermarket, petrol station and bars and cafes. The Scamander Beach Resort offers live music, a restaurant and bar with beautiful beach views. The river mouth cafe is across the road with a deck looking out to the sea. St Helens is a 30 minute drive away and has multiple restaurants and bars. Try Easy Tiger brewery and stock up of gourmet Tasmanian provisions at East Coast Providore. For mountain bike riders, there are trails in this area.
