Renovated mansion from 1885 built by city architect Louis Roelandt. The third generation family mansion is both quietly and centrally located in Ghent. The property is perfectly situated very close to Sint-Pieters-Station as well as to the historic center of Ghent. Not far from the beautiful Citadel Park with its Smak museum. Ideal for a pleasant stay during your city trip to Ghent. The house has beautiful 19th century ceilings and style.
Staying in Ghent is the perfect central location base to organise your citytrips of Ghent, Bruges (30 min train) Antwerp (50 minutes) and Brussels (30 minutes train).
The architect of the house, Louis Roelandt, was a Belgian architect that played an important role in the evolution of Romantic Classicism, Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Classical architecture in Belgium.
During the period that Belgium belonged to the First French Empire, Roelandt, who had studied at the Académie of Ghent, was selected to continue his education at the prestigious "Ecole Spéciale d'Architecture" in Paris. Like his compatriot Tilman-François Suys he was a pupil of Charles Percier and Pierre François Léonard Fontaine.
In 1818 he was appointed as architect to the city of Ghent where he would realise the majority of his future projects. The Ghent Opera, Palais de Justice of Ghent, Aula Magna of Ghent University,… the beautiful door of ou mansion is the architect's signature.
