Your hosts, Mark (photographer/landscape designer/artist) & Mitra (artist/photographer) have lived and worked here since 2003. "Sharing what we have here with our guests has been both rewarding and lots of fun! The folks who come here do so for the peace and quiet, the nature, to be by the ocean and unwind. Everyone goes away feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and even a little healthier. This has inspired us to offer Thermal Therapy to our guests and give them a reason to come here all year round."
Manna House is set in an idyllic location on Denman Island, which is centrally located in British Columbia’s beautiful Gulf Islands. Denman is a relatively small island (approximately 51 sq km or 19 sq miles) and features a mix of farmland, apple orchards, residential lots, and forest. There are arbutus and second-growth western red cedar and Douglas-fir groves. It's also home to some of the Coastal Douglas-fir biogeoclimatic zone's original forest, which you may enjoy at the Lindsay-Dickson Nature Reserve. • Climatically, the West Coast of British Columbia is a rainforest, but this spot has to be about the most benign place in Canada to be in Winter, thanks to the (relatively) warm temperatures and being in a 'double rain shadow', protected from the West by the Beaufort Range on Vancouver Island and the ridge down the middle of Denman Island itself. We do sometimes get snow, this is Canada after all, but rain and snow are both your friends at a Nordic Spa! Whether in your private hot tub in your garden or in the oceanfront sauna, it's all part of the experience. Denman Island enjoys mild & largely dry weather in spring, summer & fall. Most rainfall occurs from November through January. The average regional summer highs are in the mid-20°C range (70-80°F) & winter lows are a few degrees above freezing. • Attractions: Extensive beaches, 4 Provincial Parks, Nature Reserves, wetlands & lakes, seasonal wildlife migrations, forest trails & hikes, swimming lakes & beaches, chartered boat rides. • Services: Award-winning organic/vegan winery, organic farm produce, Saturday farmers market, artist/craft studios, general store, post office, health center, library, gym, tennis courts, bistro, book store & coffee shop. • Day Trips: Tofino & West Coast; Mt. Washington (skiing & summer hiking); Coombs & Cathedral Grove; Hornby Island (10-minute ferry ride); Whale Watching; Helicopter Rides; Chartered Boats; Courtenay & Comox for restaurants & shopping.
