The accommodation feels more like a very comfortable, well equipped and spacious home rather than a gite. It is set in peaceful and beautiful countryside. The pool is lovely and there's AC when it gets too hot outside. The hosts are amazing and...

Are you a nature lover, a sun worshipper or perhaps both? Sheltered amongst trees and surrounded by fields and woods, Cammas de Bas is the ideal spot to escape the hustle, bustle and chaos of every day pressures. Our south facing Villa is on one level accessed from three steps to an entrance porch or two steps up to the spacious private terrace overlooking the pool. The open plan lounge and dining area is 22.5 m2 and has two sets of French doors opening on to the terrace. The bathroom is newly refitted with shower, toilet and washbasin, The kitchen has also been recently fitted with all mod cons as well as french door opening onto the terrace. The pool is 11m by 5m and set in landscaped gardens, if it get s too hot, there is always the shade of our Indian summer house.
After spending the early years of my life in North London, a family move to the outskirts of London enabled me to develop a love of nature and of the outdoors. Raising a family in a semi rural setting made me realise I am not a townie at all but a country girl at heart. My husband's redundancy in 2004 gave us the ideal opportunity to create our future here in deepest rural Aude, where we spend our spare time bird watching, walking and gardening.
For the nature lovers there are many walks and cycling routes through the rolling countryside. There are breathtaking views of the Pyrenees from the hill above Cammas de Bas. Highlights are wild asparagus picking during March and April, orchids and the arrival of nightingales in early summer. The autumn colours of the vines after harvesting in September are a sight to see. Our hens provide fresh eggs for breakfast throughout the year. For this historian there are numerous castles, abbeys and medieval villages in the vacinity. Some favourites are: Montsegur, Lastours, Puilarens, Queribus and not forgetting Carcassonne with its magnificent fortified Cite! Why not visit one of the many markets to sample local produce and see the characters selling it or just to sit in a cafe and watch the world go by. The Malepere wine is one of the latest appelations and is growing in esteem. Some of our favourites are Domaine le Fort from Montreal, Chateau Guilhelm from a nearby village, most producers offer free tasting. Did you know that they were making Blanquette in Limoux 150 years before Champagne was invented?
