Pas de petit déjeuner…. Je n’avais pas fait attention à ça ! Mais j’ai pu le prendre à l’auberge du village. Accueil parfait. Maison agréable et sobre. Grand calme. Jolie vue et jolis alentours.

The cottage is a one bedroom (sleeping 2) former miner’s cottage built in the 18th Century. On the ground floor, it is open plan which includes a compact kitchen with an electric oven with grill and 3-ring hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, kettle and washing machine. There is a dining area to enjoy with a table and chairs. Within the open plan design of the ground floor, in the lounge area there is a L-shaped sofa with a TV, which provides french terrestrial television and Freesat UK channels, there is also a dvd player. For the colder months, there is also a woodburner to sit in front of and keep cosy. Situated on the ground floor and leading from the open plan living area, a doorway leads through to the bathroom. On the first floor is the bedroom. Please note that the stairs are steep, but there is a handrail. The bedroom has a king size bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. From the bedroom window there is a lovely view of the rolling countryside. A few paces to the right of the property, is the tranquil south-facing garden with a garden table, chairs and parasol. There is a lockable shed suitable to store bikes. The car parking area is approximately 40 metres from the cottage.
We live here and love it so much we want others to come and enjoy what we have been enjoying for over 15 years! The cottage is close to the voie verte which is fabulous for taking walks or cycling around lake Guerlédan. The lake is a great spot to relax or participate in some water sports. The cottage is also within walking distance of the local restaurants and the cottage is in a great position to see many other sites in Brittany.
The cottage is situated in the small sleepy rural village of Caurel, with a population of just 357 inhabitants. From the end of the 17th Century and until its heyday in the 19th Century, Caurel was the principal area for the production of slate in the Côtes d’Armor. The slate was transported via a canal (a construction instigated by Napoleon); however, slate mining began to decline in the second half of the 19th Century and after World War I, electricity became a valuable commodity, especially in rural areas. With this in mind, a 40-metre-high dam was constructed at Guerlédan over 7 years to provide electricity. The lake, dam and power station are still in commission today and provide electricity at peak times. Now that slate mining has ceased, Caurel has a slower pace of life, in the centre of Caurel and just a short walk from the cottage you have 2 restaurants (L’Auberge de Guerlédan and Cap'tain Cook). There is also a glass making workshop (la verrerie de Guerlédan) where you can book a session to make you own glassware or take a look in the shop...English and French are spoken!
