The OVO Network team’s opinion - Chalet Amarou is a contemporary, semi-detached chalet for 6, with spacious accommodations set over three floors. With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, it's a great choice for a family or a group of friends. All of the bedrooms can be arranged with kingsize or twin beds, for flexible sleeping arrangements, and two of the bedrooms open on to the hot tub balcony - you'll have to draw straws for those! Putting the stylish living area on the top floor means it is full of light and enjoys great views. Whatever season you visit, you'll love relaxing on the balcony, perhaps with a drink before dinner or even enjoying a barbecue together. Huge windows and sliding doors mean you'll always enjoy the changing view in the living area - it's a real head turner. The central fireplace means it's always cosy in the winter. The stylish kitchen is at the back of the property, but there's room at the breakfast bar to sit down with a drink and keep the cook company. Chalet Amarou is just a short walk from the centre of the Portes du Soleil ski village of Châtel, with its lifts, shops, bars and restaurants. Outside the ski season, there’s plenty to do, with great walking and biking trails, and watersports on the Dranse river. Groups of up to 18 (16 Adults max) might like to consider booking Chalet Amarou with Chalet Lula, next door, which sleeps 8. It's a great solution for families who want to ski and socialise together, but don't necessarily want to spend all their time with each other! Free wifi, cleaning, towels & linen included. Please note that you will be asked to pay additional fees if you book the chalet with a pet. This amount will be requested by the managers.

Châtel is one of the 12 resorts in the huge Portes du Soleil area, and offers great access to Avoriaz, Torgon and Morgins. You’ll have the choice of 300 ski slopes and 197 lifts, and they’re all covered by the Portes du Soleil ski pass. Situated at the end of the beautiful Abondance Valley, Châtel's altitude and location between the Alps and Lake Geneva means it enjoys a great snow record. There's a snowpark, boarder cross course and great terrain for beginners at Super-Châtel, but also plenty to test intermediates and experts in the Linga/Pre-la-Joux sector and further afield on the Swiss side of the border. And if cross-country skiing is more your thing, you'll find 49km of trails to explore around Châtel. As a traditional farming village, Châtel is ‘open’ all year round, and there’s a great choice of shops, bars and restaurants for you to visit. Outside the ski season, waterfalls and woods of the Abondance valley are popular with walkers - you can hike to a mountain restaurant for lunch or visit a farm and pick up some delicious local cheese. Cyclists will appreciate the quieter roads around the resort - both the challenging cols which feature regularly in the Tour de France and the more relaxing valley routes. The Châtel bike park offers 20 downhill tracks, and there are plenty of bike shops and hire points in the village. Walkers and trail runners can explore 48 circuits and 400km of paths, while families looking for child-friendly walks will appreciate the footpath around the lake. There is plenty going on at Lac de Vonnes, with fishing, paddle-boarding, discovery trails and a great playground. Châtel has been awarded the Famille Plus label, so you can be sure that children will always be well catered for, with a full programme of activities in summer and in winter. Older children will love the Fantasticable - an adrenalin-filled flight on two zip wires, which will see you flying over the hamlet of Plagne-Dranse at almost 100kmph!
