Perpignan is a lively place, cleaner and neater than some other southern French cities. The historical sites are not particularly thrilling, but it's pleasant to wander around the old town and there is always something going on - the annual festival of photojournalism while we were there. The beach resorts of Canet and Sainte-Marie are within easy reach.
Recommended excursions: Céret, Collioure (each a cheap 40-min bus ride away if you can figure out the eccentric timetable) + the Red Train along the Fenouillèdes valley west of Perpignan - with very knowledgeable guides! Details from Tourist Office

Like many visitors to the town, we were drawn to the town by the chance to watch the Catalans Dragons rugby league club play at Stade Gilbert Brutus. However, there is so much more that the town has to offer travellers.
The town centre is crammed with beautiful architecture, quirky shops, bars and cafes and lots of history. Meanwhile, for just a euro you can catch a forty minute bus down to the coast (we chose Collioure). A brilliant trip whether visiting with family or friends. We will definitely be back soon.

Historical castle with old town.
Historical castle with old town. Quiet provincial French town with an interesting looking medieval heart that is undergoing restoration.
We walked around Perpignan, well signposted. The locals are friendly and helpful. We ate at a restaurant close to the train station the food was tasty and reasonably priced. The Pizza place close to town was a bit more expensive but food was tasty and staff helpful. The dinner at The Steakhouse was food but quite expensive again the staff were helpful and friendly.

The hotel rooms were spacious with a large comfortable bed and exceptionally clean, with lovely Nuxe amenities in the bathroom. Lavazza coffee with espresso machine. The pool and garden area is calm and peaceful with a good selection of garden seating. On site Nuxe Spa and a fantastic Gault et Millau restaurant serving amazing food and an excellent choice of wine. Our server Faisal was extremely professional and advised us on optional menu choices. Staff are so helpful.
This appartment was freshly renovated and the owners did a wonderful job.
A lot of rented apartments are just pretty outside, but not practical, once you are inside.
Here, everything works, the design is thought for the comfort of people. It is modern, with all the needed essentials.
Contact with the owner was smooth and pleasant.
Outside it smells of jasmine! Perpignan in spring is lovely, flower pots are at every building, filling the air with sweet perfume.
The location of this small hotel is excellent - it's very centrally located in the old town, with close proximity to lots of restaurants and bars. The hotel is located off the main road, which we found to be very quiet. Breakfast was good and more than ample for the small additional cost. All in all a great one-night stay. We loved Perpignan and a place we'll definitely re-visit.
The building is located in a very quiet neighbourhood, 5-8 minutes walk from the center of Perpignan. The people around are very helphul and we were very satisfied staying there. The apartment is large, spacious, very clean and comfty, and includes all the needed facilities and amenities It is decorated in a modern fashion and you feel well being inside and enjoying its atmosphere.
A hotel full of French character, situated in an excellent location. The beds were so comfy and the hosts made us feel so welcome. I've been travelling around the South of France and the night that we stayed here was the best nights sleep we had! Our room had a huge bathroom and a large outside area. The breakfast was great too.
Christine is a very nice woman.very helpful.very accommodating, the house is a six minute walk to the
rail station (la Gare) but it’s a good 25 minute walk to
city centre, ok if your fit like me,in fact I walked everywhere.you can get the bus from la Gare, but I always walked. Perpignan seems a safe city to wander around.
Despite the works under way in the pool, the property and the location are ideal for a visit to Perpignan. We chose the property because we had lived for 4 years two blocks away in Marechal Foch st. The location turned out much better than expected. It is quieter, safer and closer to stores. We'll be going back soon!
We booked this hotel only as an intermediate stop between Lyon and Madrid, while traveling with Interrail. However, we regretted staying only 1 night. The hotel is a nice and well renovated gem. Great breakfast. Super friendly and helpful staff. Perpignan was also a surprisingly great city.
1. The location was superb. The hotel is located directly in the city centre and is close to many amenities i.e. bars, restaurants,
2. Toiletries and towels were provided.
3. When staff were there (morning only for us), they were very polite.
4. The Aircon worked.
The new owners are welcoming and very helpful. The hotel has easy access to the train station and all the historic sites in Perpignan. Breakfast is amazing, and the main dish changes every morning. Our room on the courtyard side of the building was very quiet.
The location was terrific for our needs, 10 minutes to Perpignan, 10 minutes to the beach, and a few minutes to the main motorway network.
A beautiful and very relaxing environment.
Very authentic French environment. Why would you go to France and want English?! Reception staff so helpful. Restaurant wonderful, we had a gorgeous meal… 3 times now.
Very well-looked-after small family-run hotel between railway station and centre of Perpignan. First-class breakfast with home-made local specialities.
