Place of the Goddess is one of the oldest and larger homes in the pretty, friendly town of Damvillers in the Grand Est. It has recently been renovated to a high standard to offer contemporary styling and modern comfort, while retaining it's character. The three-storey home carries a theatrical theme throughout and comprises 4 spacious bedrooms and 2 large bathrooms (one bedroom and one bathroom on upper floor. The main accommodation is on the first floor). There is a fully equipped kitchen with French doors leading to the summer room; a truly amazing, vaulted space with a glazed roof comprising a gym area with cycle and rowing machines, cross-trainer and yoga mats. There are also sun-loungers, table and chairs, and a Tiki bar with stools. The bar area is decorated with a beach wall mural and items which will make you feel like you are in the Bahamas! A perfect space to enjoy party drinks and nibbles. The main living room has a large dining table and chairs. A sumptuous sofa provides the necessary comfort to enjoy a movie on the 3 metre projection screen. There are TVs offering French and English channels. There is superfast fibre Wi-fi. Downstairs, there is a separate games room for enjoying English Pool, ping-pong or darts. Guests will arrive to a welcome pack including a bottle of wine. We will provide tourist information to assist with your itineraries to help you make the most of your time here!
We love France! We are fortunate to be the custodians of a beautiful, spacious home in a very beautiful part of the country. Having spent most of his life in the UK in a variety of roles within tourism and hospitality, Peter has returned to the area where he lived and worked for ten years running a carp angling business. Linda also worked in hospitality and formerly in nursing. We enjoy travelling and the natural world. We have a passion for cooking and enjoying good food and wine, so a return to the cradle of gastronomy was natural for us! We have enjoyed renovating Place of the Goddess and studying the history of the region. Damvillers was occupied during both world wars. The land still bears the scars of conflict. There are many cemeteries and monuments to the fallen, and the remains of villages devastated by shelling, and declared red zones are nearby. The region is now renowned for its rolling countryside, lakes and rivers, friendly inhabitants and local produce, which Peter and Linda have fallen in love with!
Damvillers nestles in the Meuse department in Lorraine. It is a short drive (under an hour) to Belgium, Luxembourg or Germany,; perfect for day trips!. It has a rich history and boasts a number of noteworthy people, including Ambroise Paré, a pioneer of modern surgery, and Jules Bastien-Lepage; a painter whose natural style paved the way to the impressionist movement. Take a self-guided tour showing the landscape that provided the inspiration for his paintings. There is a sculpture of the painter by his friend Auguste Rodin occupying a quiet spot near the Bastien-Lepage family monument. Damvillers has a small, friendly population. Everything you could need is within a couple of minutes walk. There is a general store to supply all the provisions you will need for your stay, including fresh baguettes and delicious pastries! There is a medical centre and pharmacy, and an ATM. There is a licensed cafe offering 'plats du jour'. Less than 5 minutes walk away are the Ballastieres de Damvillers - a fishing lake and birdwatching complex that provides a haven for wildlife and serene walkways. There are BBQ facilities with benches and hides. Enjoy a picnic whilst admiring the tranquil waters.
