We’re a British family living in Germany, united by a love of music, travel, and Europe. Our journey together began in Derbyshire, where early school exchanges and youth brass band tours took us to France, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, and even Canada. Music opened the door to travel, and those first adventures inspired a lifelong passion for discovering new places and cultures.
Over the years we’ve explored much of Europe: Interrail trips from Italy to Denmark, campervan holidays in Brittany and Normandy, and countless ski trips to Austria, France, Finland, Andorra, and Switzerland. We’ve also ventured further afield to the Caribbean and the USA, but it is Europe — and France in particular — that has always felt like home.
In 2005, we bought a maison secondaire in the tranquil northern Mayenne, and it quickly became the heart of our family holidays. By 2018, we wanted to share this beautiful region with others. We found two wonderful houses which we renovated with one goal in mind: to create a true home for your holiday. Comfortable, well equipped, and welcoming, they offer everything you need for a relaxing stay.
As dog owners who travel widely with our pets, it was important to us that the houses be dog-friendly, with secure gardens where your four-legged companions can enjoy the holiday too. In 2021, we added another property in nearby St Fraimbault, further growing our little family of gîtes.
Since 2012, we have also lived and worked in Berlin, a city we love for its energy and culture. Today, we divide our lives between Germany and France, still inspired by the same passions that began on those first school trips: music, travel, and a love of Europe. Our greatest pleasure is welcoming guests and helping them discover the charm, beauty, and slower pace of life in this very special corner of France.
Tucked away in the heart of the Mayenne, our holiday homes in Hercé and nearby Gorron offer guests the perfect blend of authentic French countryside charm and easy access to fascinating cultural attractions. This peaceful corner of northwest France is beloved for its rolling green landscapes, picturesque villages, and warm local hospitality – a place where life slows down, giving you time to truly unwind.
Guests are often drawn first to Hercé itself – a quaint village where time seems to stand still. Wander its quiet lanes, admire the stone houses and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. Just a few minutes away lies Gorron, a lively market town where you can shop for fresh local produce, sample famous Mayenne specialties like les Gorronaises sausages, and treat yourself in its bakeries, cafés and restaurants. Don’t miss the weekly market, alive with colour, flavours, and character.
Beyond the doorstep, the Mayenne region is rich with history and adventure. Discover the impressive Château de Mayenne, once a Carolingian palace, or explore the medieval streets of Laval with its art museum dedicated to naïve painter Henri Rousseau. Families love the refuge de l’Arche, a wildlife sanctuary that delights children and adults alike, while culture-seekers enjoy nearby Fougères, home to one of Europe’s largest medieval fortresses.
The region is also a paradise for outdoor lovers – with endless walking and cycling routes, serene rivers for kayaking, and the peaceful Vélo Francette cycle route winding through stunning countryside. Within a short drive you’ll also find Brittany and Normandy, where day trips to the Mont Saint-Michel, Normandy landing beaches, or the rugged Breton coastline are unforgettable highlights.
What do guests love most? The balance of tranquillity and variety. One day you’re sipping wine in the garden, the next you’re exploring castles, bustling markets or world-famous landmarks – and always returning home to the comfort and calm of the Mayenne.
