2 Fountains Cottage, a Pennine Ways Holiday Cottage, is set in the quiet village of Greenhead, just a 5-minute drive from Haltwhistle and close to Hadrian’s Wall. This deceptively spacious cottage has been renovated to a high standard, featuring stylish neutral décor, high-quality furniture, and modern fixtures throughout. Perfect for a relaxing break, it offers comfort and charm in a stunning location, ideal for exploring the local area and beautiful surrounding countryside.
Charming Cottage in the Heart of the Village
This welcoming cottage offers everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The cosy living room is perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring, with plenty of comfy seating, a TV, and a log-burning stove to keep things warm and inviting.
The spacious, well-equipped kitchen is ideal for cooking and entertaining, featuring a breakfast bar for casual chats and a large dining table for memorable family meals.
Downstairs, you'll also find a convenient WC and a utility room with both a washer and dryer.
Upstairs, the generous king-size master bedroom is bright and airy, offering lovely views over the village. It also boasts a full en-suite bathroom complete with a standalone bath and a separate shower.
Two additional bedrooms — a double and a twin — provide flexible accommodation for families or groups. The family bathroom also includes a bath with a shower attachment.
Outside, enjoy the private rear courtyard, perfect for storing up to four bikes in the secure shed. There is off-road parking at the front of the cottage, with additional parking available in the village.
Neighbourhood information
2 Fountains Cottage in located in Greenhead on the Northumberland border. Due to its border location, Cumbria, Northumberland and Durham are within easy reach, making this an ideal base to get out and explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You can begin many walks or cycle routes from the doorstep if you like the outdoors and the military road which runs through Greenhead provides easy access to the historical sites of Hadrian’s Wall, Vindolanda, House Steads and the Sill, which are all located within 9 miles of the cottage. Greenhead also has lots to offer with a tea room which is located opposite and the pub (The Greenhead Hotel) which serves food, located just a few doors and a farmers market on second Sunday of each month.
Haltwhistle is only a few miles down the main road and has numerous local independent shops, eateries and takeaways as well as small supermarkets.
Local bus transportation is easily accessed from the bus stop on the A69, with a small number running through Greenhead itself and the mainline train stops at Haltwhistle.
Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles, and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.
Haltwhistle town centre has a great selection of shops including small supermarkets, butchers, chemist, antique shop, florist, solicitors, estate agents, building society, post office van, library, sports centre and swimming pool, a cottage hospital and doctors’ surgery. There is also a good selection of take away food venues, cafes, local Inns and restaurants.
Haltwhistle prides itself on being the 'Centre of Britain', this small market town is well served by a range of local shops, transport links and excellent pubs. There are 3 castles within a few miles of Haltwhistle; Blenkinsopp and Bellister are ruins, but the 14th Century Thirlwall Castle is well-preserved and worth a visit.
