You’ll find our team hard at work in a traditional, converted stone carriage building in sleepy Elterwater, at the gateway of the stunning Great Langdale Valley. From here, we help people find all sorts of charming local hideaways, from converted barns to rambling stone-built parsonages. So whatever sort of Lake District break you’re looking for, give us a shout and we’ll use our in-depth local expertise to find you a place you’ll love.
Phone us and you’ll be talking to Denise, Helen, Pip or Julie – all with years of knowledge about what makes our region great. Whether you’re looking for walks, cream teas, paddling, peddling or paragliding, they’ll point you in the right direction. And if you need anything sorting out during your stay, just give us a buzz and our team of locally based housekeepers, handymen and problem solvers will be on it in a flash.
Best wishes, and take care.
The team at Wheelwrights Cottages
Property information
The property has undergone a significant refurbishment, but has kept in place its traditional features such as exposed ceiling beams, slate fireplace, thick walls, vaulted ceiling and picturesque windows.
This peaceful cottage promises fire-side warmth in winter, a terraced patio for summery days and a fine local pub nearby to follow those hard days on the fells. The greatest treat is the view from the master bedroom's brass bed.
Parking is on the lane just down the hill from the cottage . The entrance leads into a well-equipped kitchen with a lovely view. The kitchen area is open to the warm but bright lounge/dining room with stylish glass table, deep-cushioned furnishings and wood burning stove. Also on ground floor is the twin bedroom and bathroom with walk-in shower. Inner hallway leads to a staircase, rising to boutique-style double bedroom with vaulted ceiling and velux windows, brass bed and feature brass chandelier. There is also a wood-burner in this double bedroom to warm winter nights. The outside terraced balcony gives access to a large bike store and utility room.
Guests staying in Ann's Cottage can enjoy 2 complimentary membership passes of the nearby Langdale Estate
Neighbourhood information
Chapel Stile, in the heart of the Langdale valley, is a village that used to serve the local slate workings – well served on a good local bus route and with a convenient little Co-op which carries an impressive stock to support you on your holidays, and of course the local village pub, Wainwrights Inn.
It is just 5 miles away from Ambleside, a much busier tourist hub with many shops, cinemas and a variety of eateries to suit most palates. Grasmere is only 9 miles away, famous for its lake, gingerbread and home to William Wordsworth which he described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found."
For those who wish to explore further afield, a bus stop is located nearby in Chapel Stile. Buses are frequent and connect guests with the wider towns and outstanding scenery of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Leaving the car behind and jumping on a bus to explore the National Park not only helps to look after the spectacular landscape but also gives passengers the opportunity to see it without the challenge of negotiating narrow, and sometimes steep, country lanes or search for parking at your destination. By sitting back watching the landscape go by, the journey becomes part of your adventure!
