The view was incredible. Mid-terrace house with guests on either side, but we couldn't hear anything from our neighbours because the walls are so thick. Never heard a peep. The view of Lake Coniston and surrounding mountains is really...

A beautiful quirky cottage with the most stunning views over lake Coniston. The beds were comfy and the amenities were spot on.

Location is superb but if driving, very tight, steep and narrow lanes so beware. Superb views from balcony and just so peaceful.

Sitting on the terrace with the stunning view over Coniston Water. During a spell of hot weather the cottage itself stayed nice and cool. A good range of kitchen equipment.

What a wonderful view from the excellent patio with an elevated tranquil position overlooking Consiton water in the distance. Sitting on a warm June evening gazing out over the view and sipping a glass of wine - life doesn't get much better.

Company information

Offering the largest collection of cottages in the Coniston area, The Coppermines Lakes Cottages are the local experts. Independent Agents, locally owned, managed and staffed since 1982. The business was originally developed from the humble restorations of the historic Coppermines buildings, situated in the Coniston Coppermines Valley by Philip Johnston and his family who still own our business today, making us one of the last independent agencies here in the Lake District. Over the years we have significantly grown to now offer over 90 hand-picked, unique, self-catering Lake District cottages (many pet-friendly), all of which are situated within the UNESCO World Heritage boundary.

Property information

Sitting high up above Coniston village, Bank Top Cottage enjoys incredible lake and hill views from its inviting sun deck. If incredible views are your thing, then this traditional stone cottage is hard to beat! Bank Top Cottage is in the rarefied heights of The Banks, on one of the highest roads in the village of Coniston. It is one of a row of traditional Lakeland slate terraced cottages built in the early 18th century to home the mine workers. Now it's a haven for guests who are seeking a cosy holiday cottage with unbeatable lake views. And should you tire of the view (you won't) you can retreat to the comfortable interior, warm your toes by the real fire and kick back and relax in the cosy sitting room. With a double bedroom enjoying those gorgeous lake views, plus a 2nd bedroom with full-size bunk beds, Bank Top Cottage is perfect for couples or families. Ideally situated for both stunning hikes and exploring the village, this lovely cottage enjoys immediate access onto the surrounding open fells while the amenities of the village are less than a 10 minute walk.

Neighbourhood information

Local Activities Coniston is simply an excellent base for any Lake District holiday. The village is packed with friendly pubs, local shops and lively cafes and there is incredible walking straight from the village centre, including the iconic Coniston Old Man. There are also plenty of opportunities for wild-swimming including the lake, beautiful mountain tarns and the picturesque Church Beck river with its stunning waterfalls and deep, crystal clear pools. For cyclists, there are spectacular off-road mountain biking trails including those at nearby Grizedale Forest, as well as some stunning road routes through some of the country's most beautiful scenery. For those who enjoy a quieter pace, The Ruskin Museum, which depicts the fascinating history of the area including the famous water speed record attempt of Donald Campbell is a must visit. While on the eastern shores of the lake lies Brantwood, the Victorian home of John Ruskin, where visitors can explore the historic house and vibrant arts centre and enjoy some delicious food from The Terrace cafe with its breath-taking lake and mountain views. The wider Lake District area is also very easily accessible from Coniston, with popular destinations such as Ambleside, Bowness and Windermere just a short drive away.
